The European arm of Japan-based cryptocurrency exchange bitFlyer has launched a bitcoin buying and selling service aimed to be easier to use than spot trading exchanges.

BitFlyer Europe announced the news on Tuesday, saying the new trading platform targets people wanting “a simple way to buy and sell bitcoin, from total beginners to experienced traders.” Until now, the firm offered only a pro-trader service, dubbed Lightning, as its euro-bitcoin marketplace.
The firm describes itself as the “only” crypto exchange to be licensed in Japan, the U.S. and the EU.

UK financial watchdog finally decides which cryptocurrencies it wants to regulate

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the regulatory body tasked with overseeing the country’s financial markets, has clarified its stance on crypto assets, stating which tokens it’s responsible for.
Today’s policy statement is a response to a consultation paper published by the FCA in January, which prompted 92 responses from several financial services entities, including cryptocurrency exchanges, trade associations, and banks. Most responses supported its original proposals, the regulator said.

The Russian Federal Customs Service has opened a criminal investigation into an importer of bitcoin miners for potential underpayment of customs fees.
The Far-East Trading and Industrial Company, or DTPK, may have failed to pay about $1.2 million on 6,012 Bitmain-manufactured ASIC miners imported from August 2017 to February 2018, according to a search warrant obtained by CoinDesk.

Alexander Shashkov, the founder of Intelion Mining, said customs officers suspected the DTPK-imported miners ended up at his company’s data center and sent armed personnel to his offices in two Russian cities as recently as July 18.
According to him, Intelion had nothing to do with the miners under investigation, but law enforcement ended up seizing 2,500 ASICs hosted by the company anyway because the clients who owned them hadn’t presented valid documentation.

as of yesterday over 85-percent of the total Bitcoin BTC supply has been mined. But seriously, there’s no need to worry.
According to various Bitcoin blockchain explorers and market information websites, over 17,850,000 Bitcoin (17,850,600 according to CoinMarketCap) have been mined and are classed as being “in circulation.” That’s a hair over 85 percent of the cryptocurrency‘s supply limit of 21 million coins.

As a result, there are just over 3,000,000 Bitcoin left to mine, until we reach the fabled 21 millionth coin.
Eventually, the 21 million coin limit will be reached and miners will stop being rewarded. One idea, posited by Nakamoto in the Bitcoin white paper, suggests that the network will have to shift to rewarding miners with transaction fees.

Retail giant Walmart has applied for a cryptocurrency patent that bears some similarities to the Libra token proposed by Facebook in mid-June.
In its application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Walmart touts the concept of a digital currency “tied to a regular currency” – that is, what’s commonly known as a stablecoin. Libra will be a token pegged to a basket of fiat currencies and government bonds, according to Facebook.

“Using a digital currency, low-income households that find banking expensive, may have an alternative way to handle wealth at an institution that can supply the majority of their day-to-day financial and product needs,” Walmart states.
A notable difference is that users of a “Walmart Coin” could “even earn interest,” the application suggests. With Libra, interest earned on the scheme’s potentially vast reserve funds would go to Libra partners that back the company to the tune of around $10 million.

Technology researchers Comparitech have used machine learning to analyze over 48k Reddit posts to determine which cryptocurrencies are viewed the most favourably. The study also included 7,500 articles from national and international news outlets.
Articles were scored based on positive and negative sentiment in relation to other articles included in the study.
Over 85% of online crypto discussions are positive
It is estimated that 85.5% of conversations on the topic were deemed positive in sentiment. The analysis of media articles painted a different picture, however, with the majority of outlets publishing more negative articles than positive.

The most guilty of this were HuffPost, Business Insider and the International Business Times, which posted twice as many negative articles as positive. Only Forbes bucked the trend, with 80% of its cryptocurrency-related pieces having a positive sentiment.
