    Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know that the next build of OA free does not contain any usermode socket hooks at all (no webshield, mailshield, completely disabled and removed)

So, I am now seeing ads munched. Will work with the Admuncher guys to resolve this for the full version (and probably, by definition it will resolve it for mamutu as well).

    Cheers,

    Mike

Does this effect the "script/worm" protection? And what about the "active X" warnings (although I suspect that was part of the web shield)?

FWIW- I tried forever to get admuncher and OA to work together- every combination of web shield on/mail shield off; something else on/something else off...and the only way I got them to work together was to -

    1. just disable HIPS entirely and just run the firewall which seemed to defeat the purpose of OA a great deal or;
    2. start admuncher first and open your web page(s) then enable OA. It worked fine when AM was allowed to load first like that. But it's just not the most secure way of doing things. Plus if you opened another instance of your browser AM would not work in the pages of the newly opened browser. I cannot remember if it worked in tabbed pages when OA was allowed to load first or not.

    Hi all,

Here is the latest pre-release update of OA Free. This version mitigates the AM impact (Murray and I are in communication offsite about a permanent solution). This version includes:

    1) Free registration (will not expire).

    2) Winsock hooks are completely removed (so admuncher can work)

    3) Hotkeys gone

    4) Minor driver fix (possible BSOD)

    5) Image File Execution control (bug fix)

    6) Fixed: FW is sometimes active during SCW (when installed over the current
    version)

    Enjoy!

    Mike

The issue with Admuncher and compatibility with security software appears to relate to the usermode hooks which admuncher (and security software) uses to hook certain functions.

Therefore, if Murray's team can fix the compatibility issue with Online Armor, it means they should not, in theory, have any issues with other security software which hooks the same functions.

That is part of the webshield. Scripty/wormy stuff is part of program guard, and not affected.

So will the paid version of OA2 be able to work with Admuncher also?

The reason free works with AM is because all of the socket hooks which are used by OA are removed. So, there is no conflict -because only AM has those hooks.

In the full version - AM and OA still conflict. We'll be working with the AM guys to help them resolve this (or, if it IS an OA problem - help US resolve it..)

    Thanks Mike.
I'm still staying with my paid version of OA, guess AM will have to wait then.

latest release installed over old one without problems. Old settings were lost, but I did see a restore settings tab during new install. Will this be implemented for the final release?

    Hi Woodward,

Not in OA free but you can export, in a file, all your fw rules from the firewall screen (by right clicking and selecting export).
After a new install, you can use the import function to restore all your fw rules

    Regards,

OA flags program as trusted/unknown/untrusted using an inbuild database.
Scanning will notify you about all untrusted files found on your comp using this database

    Hello all,
I see there's a link to the free version in the site, so I guess it means it's out :)
I've never used OA before so I have two little question regarding this free version.
First, how much can you tweak firewall rules in the free version - can you set specific application rules with specific i.p's/ports/protocols etc.?
And second, what's the memory usage (more or less, you know... ;) ).
    Thanks in advance, Adam.

    Advice Please

I have been using winpatrol ,kerio 2.1.5 and geswall free for a long time without any troubles. Is it better to uninstall all of them and try the online armor free.(of course I will use my antivir premium along).
Or should I keep geswall free along online armor.Any advices please.
Uninstall kerio:eek:nline armor is a better firewall
uninstall geswall:use online armor's run safer mode for IE and Limewire
    uninstall winpatrol:OA has HIPS
So if I install online armor will I be better protectedo_O??
resource usage:it will drop because of less applications.
If it plays well on my PC later I may buy the full version with antivirus.

All I can say as a betateamer, there is not any know issue with the list you've presented. So, I'd advise you to uninstall nothing and try. But .. I cannot guarantee there will not arise any :)
