Perhaps to allow manual updating from a standard user account without resorting to the use of weak file permissions.

 

For scanning it is free.

Hitman Pro Consist of 6 Engines:-

1. ESET NOD32
2. Prevx
3. GDATA (BitDefender & Avast)
4. Emsisoft (a-squared & Ikarus Utilities)

Since all my security forces are almost in Prevention layer of protection, Detection offers by AV isn't important for me anymore.
I do only from time to time (once per few months) scan my system using AV which doesn't need installation on my hard disk - Dr.Web CureIt!, and if I really boring also MBAM scan. That's it.
I don't care if Dr.Web CureIt! has detection rate equal 99% or 55% or even less - cause I can't wait another 5 or six months when they will add to signature database samles which haven't been detected on my system during last scan - yes, they could be on my system but even then they are harmless (prevention policy) so no worry about it.

 

why end such threads always in silly lists whats ev'body uses?

Hello. I didn't know Hitman Pro consist of so many engines, then i think i should vote Hitman Pro instead of Bitdefender.

May I ask something about hitman pro? I tried it and it is scanning really fast. How it combines all these scanners and is so quick? What does it scan for and which areas?

 

Because it is a "Cloud" scanning technology, the small program only checks certain areas of your PC not the whole HDD.
When it considers a file suspicious it sends it to the "Cloud" for a deeper scan and if a malware is found it tells you
All those engines are NOT in your PC, but in the servers.

 

Thank you for your reply. So if I have an active virus (not in some archive or similar) hitman will find it? And only when it is a running or start up process?

 

HitmanPro will detect any file that is infected (Considering that one of their engines do).
I'm not sure but i think HitmanPro doesn't scan Start-Up or anything, only files.

 

Avira doesn't require a service or driver to use it as on-demand only. You can update with Windows Task Scheduler so you don't need to use their update module either.

That annoys me about A-Squared as well.

A-Squared Free is on-demand only so he really only has one real-time scanner.
