Well I only "discovered" OA about a month ago and just bought my licence today. I've long respected Emsisoft and I think Mike's words in his blog show a lot of class that's missing in world business.

Good luck Mike, and good luck to Emsisoft!

Besides: Australia / Austria -- how could the two not work well together? :D

Oh well, good luck Mike you deserve it to work out.

You'll forgive me though for being somewhat sad. Don't get me wrong I like Christian and crew but I for one will miss Tall Emu.

Onwards and upwards lets hope! Emsisoft you have a hard act to follow.

    Cheers

Having used Emsisoft in the past, and currently running an OA product, I can't say I am discouraged by this outcome. I offer my congratulations to Mike Nash and thank him for his years of obvious dedication to the security software industry. Change is the never-ending constant! :)
(And congrats to Christian & Co. as well!)

Well, Mike explained it all. Continuity of his baby will be guaranteed now. It was a sensible thing to do, while there is still value in the product brand Online Armour.

Mike I wish you all the best, by the what CRM are you selling :D

If your happy with what you've done with Emsisoft then it must be ok. I hope you recuperated your investment in OA and more. Good Luck Mike and best wishes for the future.

Well, wishes to Emsisoft, OA and Mike N.
In general, I am against the big fish that eats the small one...against the small fish that cannot feed itself, or is stupid enough to not protect itself, or the small fish that has a dream since a little child to be eaten by a big fish. But I guess this is part of the life we live. In any case again my best wishes.

I think there is a reality here you are overlooking. Look at all the products that have gone the wayside. It's one thing to compete against a comparable product that is similarly price, but it's quite another when there are so many free products.

I suspect we haven't seen the end of this.

Re: Oh the secrets & mysteries we hold!!

    Hi

Sorry for delayed responses, I've had one or two email messages this morning as you might imagine :)

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words - I will still be around here, and still keep an eye on things with OA. Edit: But I'm not going to interfere :)

It's not like I died - though that's basically what I was trying to avoid. This isnt a case of a big fish eating a small one, it's a case that I got up one morning after another late night, and thought: I just can't live like this any more.

Simple thing was to call Christian, and say words to the effect of "Mate, I can't do this any more, I know you like OA, so if you want it, she's yours".

I did have from time to time other players sniffing around, but we never considered those.

After working with Christian and building a good rapport (plus spending some time with him and his wife) I'm confident that things will be good. He works differently to me, but at heart he has very similar values - he'll respect the customers, the products, and the developers that left Tall Emu to go and work for him.

Of course, over time things will change - but the core of the man that we sold OA to will not - and that's what is important, at least to me.

I've seen what happens when other Vendors "give up" or "bow out" - or just do a Ghost Security or Diamond and disappear, and I promised myself, and everyone I spoke to that would never happen with us. Promise kept guys.

    Mike

    @MikeNash

Does this mean you'll now lose your ORANGE label and title ?

    mn.gif

    Best reason ever :thumb:

I often thought with you and them all based in OZ, that it "might" have been possible for one or more of you to get together, in some way/s ?

    :)

Anyway, you and the team gave as much as you could for as long as you did, and who could ask for more :thumb:

You've got the summer coming up to look forward to, plenty of time at last to enjoy all that sun/surf etc :)

All the best to you, your family and the crew :thumb:

Good luck, Mike. If you've taken it as far as you feel you can then no one should be moaning at you. Surely it's best to see how things go with the new developer before the gloomy comments start to come in. Anyone that respects what you've done with OA will feel that way.
