    Joe:

New problem w/program. All of a sudden the program "Mozbackup" failed to execute. This is a program that backs up profiles for Firefox/Thunderbird. I fought it for weeks and finally gave up. Wrote to the author and he advised there was a program in the tray that was causing it to fail. By eliminating one at the time I could find the answer. After disabling Prevx, it worked! Glitch somewhere that needs fixing, huh?

This is an intended behavior within Prevx - Mozbackup accesses the protected user credentials, which, if done by malware, would result in all of the logins/passwords being stolen. Therefore, SafeOnline will prevent Mozbackup and other similar programs from reading this data - unfortunately we can't just allow Mozbackup as malware could ship a modified copy of it alongside their infection and read the data through it by-proxy.

However, if you disable SafeOnline, you will be able to use it without a problem :)

:D Indeed, SOL is probably not the best acronym :D Internally, we call Prevx SafeOnline: PSO (in case that helps at all in the quest for not using profanity when describing a product :D)

    Welcome to the forums! :D

SafeOnline and Prevx 3.0 are essentially separate products, however, they come shipped as one. SafeOnline will be more unobtrusive to the end user as its intention is to secure the user when browsing online, but if you install Prevx 3.0, you will receive SafeOnline as well alongside it.

That is quite annoying - sorry for the inconvenience :doubt: Can you try downloading our removal tool from:

    http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=csiuninstalltool

and then reboot your PC and then install the newest version from http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp

This should correct the behavior but if not, please let me know :)

We don't release new versions for autoupdate for a few days to give other AV vendors time to correct any FPs on the software and to make sure everything is working properly across our live users. I suspect it is out already, but you can always download the newest version directly from the link I posted in the first post :)

They definitely appear to have made some pretty significant changes - we're going to wait until they reach a more final version and then add support for it :)

    Thanks for the information!

I finally migrated from 3.0.1.65 to 3.0.5.74. PSO only works if I disable GeSWall Policy. That doesn't make sense to me... to run my browser as trusted just so I can see what PSO will protect me from. All of the configuration settings look identical from one version to the next. Sure was easy to upgrade though. :)

Are you doing a clean install or over the top? It's best to uninstall 3.0.1.65 then reboot and then install 3.0.5.74 because there was so many change between the two.

I went over the top, which is what I figured the internal updater would do when it eventually gets around to pushing 3.0.5.74 out to the public.

I'm running a scan again. See what happens.

Also, on the same pc, Prevx icon didn't load in the systray, but Prevx was running.

You're probably right about uninstalling the old program first.

Tell me this, are the setting configurations the same from one version to the next, except of course for PSO?

TH, where do you have Self Protection set at?
I just uninstalled and reinstalled and it looks like the default is Maximum instead of Medium.

Wow, 3.0.5.74 is really struggling on one of my computers.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and on reboot got the Prevx error message: "Prevx 3.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience."
The tray icon still isn't loading either... just one prevx.exe in Task Manager.
Something is messing Prevx up that isn't on my other machine.
Maybe Diskeeper 2010's auto-defrag or something.
    I'll keep playing with it.

Edit in: Removing Diskeeper 2010 seems to have stopped the problems, either by coincidence or not.

    Hi Page,
It might be worth running our removal tool from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=csiuninstalltool and then rebooting and installing v3.0.5.74 fresh. The default self protection is Maximum, but could you send me the minidump created in C:\Windows\Minidump\ so that I can determine if the BSOD was caused by Prevx? It might also be worth getting crash details if the crash you experienced is reproducible, although I suspect the BSOD had something to do with the crash as well.

Let me know what your results are - we still weren't able to reproduce any problems with GeSWall either: could you let me know what configuration you're using and if you have any hints as to how I could reproduce it here?

    Thanks! :)

I very much appreciate the reply and offer to assist, Joe.
Right now all appears to be well in my world with Prevx 3.0.5.74.
But have you ever heard of any issues with Diskeeper 2010?
I didn't mind removing it from that computer, as I was running a trial and plan to install a different defragger.
As for PSO, I'm not that keen on it, to be honest, so I'm good without running it. I believe it is by design that it won't run while GeSWall has my browser isolated, don't you agree?
If I encounter ongoing Prevx issues, I will try to get the dumps to you.
    Thanks again!

That's the same problem I encountered (and I don't use Diskeeper) that I reported in post #25 in this thread. The problem seemed to occur when Prevx v3.0.5.74 tried to automatically update over the top of the previous version. Forcibly uninstalling Prevx and reinstalling the latest version solved the problem for me.

Thanks guys for your prompt reply!!

I tried to remove PREVX 3 from my system using REGSEEKER but despite that I'm still not able to install the new version of PREVX 3.0.

So maybe, as matters stand, I'd better send the above message to PREVX SUPPORT directly from here:

What do you make of it?
