I liked Cyberhawk. I wish they would have not sold out. I think it would have had a better future, but sometimes developers don't have the funds to promote a product.

I had forgotten about that one. It was a decent program when it was SpySubtract. I don't think it was as good after Trend purchased it.
Actually it was much later - 2003. According to Wikipedia, it had over 10 million users when MS purchased it.
It went on to become one the best antispyware programs back in the day. It initially had quite a few issues with false positives, but later releases fixed that.

RAV (Reliable Antivirus) was possibly one of the most popular AV's at the time in some countries, and on the top 5 worldwide. I liked it, and used it. Also it was a well-licensed engine, used in products like AVK, G-Data, and some other re-brandings. It was pretty light, had OK heuristics, they kept up good on signatures, and no bloatware with it.

    Microsoft destroyed it immediately.

Wow I had a lot of security programs running at that time :D I was preparing for third world malware war.
    - Avira
    - Defensewall (used to switch between DW and GeSWall Pro)
    - SensiveGuard
    - EQSecure (which had just replaced SSM free)

SensiveGuard was an firewall which also filtered which file types of folders a guarded application was allowed to access.

It is often pretty funny looking back to the past like that. And it's amazing how much we have learned over the years as well. Time changes everything. These recent threads of discussing software from the past is starting to make me feel old. :)

Can,t believe that BOClean by Kevin McAleavey hasn,t been mentioned here...in my opinion one of the very best programs out there and one of the persons who you could depend on outstanding support..

I liked the small and fast antispyware scanning tool X-Cleaner by xblock.com. Unfortunately they stopped development on it several years ago.

So, it appears that Mr. Mayahana has been proven to be not guilty. That is why I love the concept of the presumption of innocence.

BTW, there was also NovaShield that had quite a few mentions here IIRC. And Softpedia also still has it listed! :thumb:

And next from China...hmmm...why so many orphaned apps come from this country? :doubt:
Micropoint Proactive Defense Software - people say that it's based on CyberHawk engine so it's younger "brother" of ThreatFire.

TDS = Trojan Defence Suite from DiamondCS the makers of ProcessGuard etc.

Yes, let's not forget BOClean too, which was one of the first AT's

& PE Guard This could still be a worthwhile addition, even though development has ceased.

I had all 3 @ one time. TDS included all sorts of extra scanning etc tools. It must have been scary looking etc to regular users ! Me too initially.

    Look what I found: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/systemsafety.html

This was the first HIPS I ever used, it kept crashing Win98 SE. After that I switched to Process Guard free on Win XP, before dumping it for a new and improved SSM.

I wonder what happened to these guys? I would love to see such a HIPS for Win 8.

BTW, on this page you can find a lot of dead products: http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge-64/product-list.php
