OE Classic discussions and updates

New version of OE Classic v4.2 available. The installation file is some 2 Kb larger than the previous v4.2 version. No indication of what has been updated/improved in this new version.

Strange that the version number was not changed; strange that the ReadMe file (the changelog) was not updated. Strange ..... What is happening here?

 

In the previous v4.2 version there was a problem with opening DOCX and XLSX attachments. That has now been fixed in the latest v4.2 version (Source: OEC's Facebook page).

 

What a bunch of amateurs. Do they actually know what they are doing?

- OEC PRO version v4.5 has been removed from the website. There were some "annoying" bugs. Those who have a "Paid for" version can re-download v4.2. I have the latest FREE version and ALL the PRO updates that were released since the latest FREE version.

Recommendation: use the un-installer program that has been provided with the version v4.5.

- Improved multi language support.

Odd, when I log in (with my "paid for" license key) I see the picture above.

 

- "Improved mutliple language support" (see a previous post) is subtle hint that there is new work waiting for the translators of OEC. Are any of the OEC translators watching & reading this thread ?

 

OEC PRO version 4.5 Beta released. Hopefully the bugs that still were present in the previous v4.5 version have been fixed.

- I assume that we will see more updates in the near future as I assume that the developers will continue to improve the integration of the Edge Chromium (rendering) engine into the OEC program code.
- The jump in version number of OEC (from v4.2 to v4.5) is an indication of the progress made in OEC.

[2023-10-27] Pressing TAB in Preview Pane wasn't moving to another control for Edge Chromium.
[2023-10-27] Edge Chromium control wasn't activated on mouse click, only on TAB key.
[2023-10-21] TAB key wasn't properly cycling through controls in the Main Window when using Edge Chromium
[2023-10-21] Message list wasn't initially selected when starting the program.

(I assume there will be more future releases/updates to fix more bugs related to the integration of Edge Chromium in the program code).

 

I am going back to a previous version (v4.5.1).

 

New version of OEC PRO available (v4.6).

New features:
[2023-11-08] Default font set to sans-serif for incoming messages which don't specify font information (replaces Times New Roman)
[2023-11-03] Improved error detection when reading corrupted folder file

Bug fixes:
[2023-11-08] CTRL+C was copying entire text in Preview Pane instead only of a selected portion
[2023-11-03] Inability to close program when loading certain emails.

- The previous version v4.6 had one annoying bug in a feature I regularly use and that was the reason why I didn't want to use that version. This bug wasn't mentioned in the list right above with the previous bug fixes. That one bug now seems to have been fixed and now I'll be using this latest v4.6 version.

 

Thanks, but are you sure that there is indeed this new version? I don't get it using the internal updater. Maybe something on my end? Maybe they pulled it?

 

Nothing is wrong on your end, Jan. There seems to be a new version, but it has not been made available yet. Apart from that, the information given on the OE Classic website is misleading:

A new version seems to have been released on 19 Nov (v4.6.1), but the OE Classic servers were last updated on 8 Nov (v4.6). Maybe they will fix it later today.

IMHO a new version means a new version number!

 

Perhaps the developers are still busy working on fixing one or more MAJOR bugs ?
