I've actually made a personal New Year resolution to not spend our retirement funds on security related software. I have what I consider to be a very secure and lithe setup, and will live with it for as long as I can stand to! Sorry, "Farkle Software, Inc.", you're not my friend anymore!

Cold Turkey! That's the only way. I have tried to wean myself, but to no avail. I will now attempt once more to write my book instead of trying new software. I am almost finished writing it, and have an editor, but the obsessiveness of coming here and reading about new versions of existing software and then trying them must now truly come to an end. If I could stop drinking over ten years ago, (some of what the book is about) then I surely can overcome this addiction as well. I simply must. Here though are my favorite softwares I have used. LOL. Freeware. Firewall. Comodo for sure. Antispyware. Spyware Terminator. On Demand SuperAntiSpyware. Behavioral/HIPS. Cyberhawk. As for anything paid, I would not hesitate at all using SuperAntiSpyware. It is in my opinion fast becoming a top of the line software, and it helps that Nick from SAS seems to be a sincere person as well. Other than that, there are many free versions out there today that offer a variety of features and protection without spending money. I was fortunate enough to be given the AVG 7.5 Internet Security Suite by someone in this forum, and thank them once again for it. This is what I have settled on using with Firefox and NoScript behind a wireless router firewall, and believe it is surely enough protection. I believe there is a reason for everything and no coincidences in life, and receiving this Suite actually helps me continue believing this, because it will now help me remain satisfied enough to stop this obsession, and finish my book. This also means I will be staying out of this forum for awhile too, so thanks once again to everyone who was nice to me here, and for now goodbye.

Good luck Duke. Last time I told myself I was going to forsake the forums for awhile it lasted about 3 days. Hope you do better than me. When you mentioned the alcohol thing, the thought did occur to me that I've had withdrawals after leaving the forums for a few days (meant in a humorous way - I know the two aren't comparable). I also have a book I've been trying to finish, but had to lay off - it was becoming an obsession... Hey, see ya in a couple of days! ;)

we will proberbly see you when the new cyberhawk is released next week :) best of luck with your book. I helped to put a book together with a freind 7 yrs ago . I went and lived in the mountains (southern alps) for 4 yrs. nearly 3 of those were with another and 14 months in solitude . No tv nor internet. just nature/ creation and the seasons rolling by. a good way to really get things accomplished .

Well, I'm doing pretty good so far. I've been with Bufferzone free and AVAST for a whole month now. No other security on this box and I don't feel undergunned at all.

But, I also have Shadowsurfer and the key sitting on my desktop, and it tempts me every day to try it.

Hey, once you have the "I gotta try this" fever, you might as well give in. It's only a matter of "when," not "if." :'(

Duke1959 - I hear the Comodo upgrade is almost finished. They're working on the HIPS right now and they"ll do the sandbox next. It'll be called Comodo Pro Firewall.
