I have two scanners on my pc, Nod and another which I switch back and forth between. When I scan my entire c:drive with the other scanner, the report shows 30,000 files having been scanned. When I use Nod, only about 5,000 get scanned. The other scanner hits about 25,000 more files?!?!?!

In this thread--http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=12180--several folks reported a temporary problem. I checked my log file for my daily system scans and they showed a consistent 22,000 files being scanned, so the problem was not universal. Are you still having the problem after updating virus signatures?

    Hi Acadia,

    Is your virus signature 1.476o_O

It seems that will solve the matter, how strangely it may look o_O

Thanks for replying. Yes, I have the latest virus signature, actually, Nod has always scanned 5,000 files, but I still have everything set at the defaults, I have never changed anthing. Should I change part of the setup? Thanks again.

    Hi Acadia

If you are running at the default settings then you will not be scanning runtime packers, archives or email files and will be scanning the default file types only.

You can change these options by launching the on demand scanner and selecting the setup tab. (if you want to 'scan all file' select the extensions button). Once configured you can save the profile.

Whether you 'should' change part of the setup is really a personal choice.

    regards

    Jim

Thanks, Jim, very interesting. I went into "Objects to Diagnose" and activated everything. Then I went into Extensions and activated "Scan all Files". That jumped the total of files being scanned from 5,000 to 24,000. Still 6,000 short of my other scanner but I guess I'm just going to ASSume that the Nod folks know what they're doing when they set up the defaults. Thanks again for the reply.

Regularly scanning 80K files - once update 1.475 was auto applied this dropped to 30k files and the next day after update 1.476 was auto applied this went back upto 80k files.

All I can say is very strange how a virus signature update could affect the number of files the daily scheduled scan would scan o_O
