Didn't get to see much of the 1st match....watching Mex - Iran 1 to 1 at half time. Iran very impressive despite Mex being heavy favorite. Good game so far!!

It wasn't our fault we struggled against Paraguay....the sun was out and it was hot and also we were required to run about a bit in it....I think the other team should have realised we were distressed and let us have the ball more...also we were dehydrated....Sven has now asked the ruling body if England can be allowed drink breaks every ten minutes during a game and maybe a Tea-break every 15 minutes.....it's only fair....all the other teams are used to playing in the sun......:D :D :D.....

Actually I've seen more life in road-kill rabbits.....

    Ok snowy,

You admittedly can't spell or count.....hows your reading? If you're short on that too I've got some good betting tips for the upcoming matches. Odds are 100 to 1.....my favor! I wouldn't do this to for just anybody!

I await your pleasure as I play on, big ed

Chise gets a bit balmy this time of day.....besides it's chip n fish! This should be in the "Golf" thread. 1st you attempt to chip onto the green......then you fish your ball out of the water hazard.

    Portugal is hanging tough!!

    Play through, big ed

    Relief & Jubilant :D

Rehi friends, I'm back from partying -without a hangover :thumb:

Very satisfied with this result; we got our most wanted 3 points, and got the best start of the tournament in 28 years, I believe. Opening matches are always tough, and now we can grow, with joy and confidence.

Expectations were way too high in our country, but especially in these conditions -it's really bloody hot in Europe this week- I was very pleased with how the team played and handled this opponent.
Arjen Robben started lousy (I was cursing when he started diving again- he really should stop doing that, right Ed?) but picked up after 15 minutes to become Man of the Match.
    He was awesome!
He made my provence (Groningen) extra proud; his town of birth is nearby me (10 km) and people here are very happy.

But don't overlook Robin van Persie (great assist). So happy to finally have 2 great wingers again - in real Dutch tradition. Van Nistelrooy played unlucky(too eager?), was substituted for Kuijt but will start in line up next match again. No worries, his time will come soon. Still, our defense will stay a matter of concern; fear they will not stand the test against any strong topteam...then again I'll hold on to the plain wisdom of master Johan Cruijff: the only thing you need to do is score one goal more than your opponent does! ;) :D
Van Basten is coaching great, got a very relaxed but focused attitude.
    Oozing confidence.

Though Serbia & Montenegro clearly showed too much respect for our squad and coach; that was a lucky bonus; I have seen better matches from them.
But hey, who cares- next meeting: Friday against Ivory Coast.

    Looking forward to it!

And now I'll take a dive in the nearby lake for celebrating :)

    Play on!
    slam:D

Good for you and your Mates Slam!! Am I just dreaming or has there been a minimum of time wasting and professional fouls. I'm pretty sure that it was a 1st for me that there was no extra time added to the half during one of the matches. I've enjoyed every contest so far except for the Grand Opening. Germany did not impress as Costa Rica was pathetic. England did not exactly light up the stadium either but 'Becks' said it was because they were all hot, exhaused, and thirsty! Both teams better pick it up a few notches or else they're toast.

Roos and Japan shortly! Good chance for the Aussies to start off on the right foot.

US vs Czech's...we'll see if the US is a #5 or a #55!

Italy vs Ghana...I have no clue!

    I love it, big ed

    Thanks :)
You're right. And another remarkable thing I was delighted about:
Players who start asking for yellow cards are presented one themselves for un-sportive behaviour! Very good.

    Agree.

    Me too:D
Really curious how the Italians will perform; will they start again in good old Azzurri tradition with 2 or more boring draws, or will they light up the fireworks, like I'm hoping for?
As for the Czechs: will they take the last chance for this generation, and what surprise is possible for Team USA?

Rooting for the Roo's! :thumb: Come on St.Gus :)

    Play on,
    slam :D

I find this really interesting.....The Duchies seem to have the best...and the worst coaches. Guus and Dickie....Kinda like the "FORCE" and the "DARKSIDE"!

It's no wonder nobody stands near Guus during the match....his fists really fly when his team scores! OUCH!

    Yesssss Guus does it again!

    Yahoo Socceroos !!!

After coming behind in such silly way -what a blooper from Schwarzer- the OZ's seemed powerless to score; then Saint-Gus made his move, and with a golden hand he picked some scoring substitutes from the bench to overturn the match completely in the final 8 minutes: from 0-1 behind to 3-1 victory. SENSATIONAL
This ment the first goals scored and first points ever on the worldcup for Australia:
What a great barbie they will have DownUnder tonight: Cheers!

I think this also means EXIT JAPAN...sayonara ;)

And the party goes on and on :) , next: USA vs Czechs
I'll get myself a pizza quickly and settle back in front of my friend for this month..the tv. :ninja:

    Oh dear...:doubt:

Jan Koller scores just 5 minutes after kick-off for the Czechs:

Team USA vs Czech Republic 0-1

    Work to be done, yanks

28th minute: Reyna (USA) nearly equalises, but his great shot from 20 meters hits post...

And it's getting worse for USA:

35th minute - Tomas Rosicky hammers in a 2nd goal for the Czechs: 0-2

    Fabulous goal

41st. min.: Major blow for the Czech Republic: Jan Koller injured after sprinting, probably tearing his left hamstring. If so; it would be all over for the tournament for him. He's carried off on a stretcher and replaced by Vratislav Lokvenc.

HALFTIME SCORE : USA vs CZECH REP. 0-2

    Second half in progress

Czechs are a pleasure to watch once again; I really like their play :)

US should really push harder, if they still want to make some chance

Oooooh it's all over now: What a marvelous goal, worldclass :)

75th minute: Tomas Risicky makes it 0-3 for the Czechs after a fabulous running breakthrough through the center of the US defense

    Final whistle

Impressive display of the Czech Republic; a force certainly not be overlooked, although the US had a very poor and thus sobering start of their campaign.

    FINAL SCORE:

    USA vs. CZECH REPUBLIC 0-3

    Really enjoyed watching this one.
