Good news for Chelsea, bad for Rooney but no reason to think Football is a waste.... ;) :D

England will just have to wait a little longer, that's all. :ouch:

with Rooney being injured in the game which ment Chelsea won the league it ruined the whole day. i don't really want to watch the world cup now, i only wanted to watch Rooney. who's going to sorce for England now, Lampard?

it's the same injury which Beckham and Neville had during the last world cup and which ended Rooney playing in Euro 2004 and Michael Owen has now. it's a broken metatarsal. England is probably the only country in the world where over 50% of the population knows what a metatarsal is.

If England is a one man team they most likely couldn't win anyway.

I have seen many sports teams lose their star player and the rest of the team rise to the occasion to go all the way and sometimes win it all. :)

It happens more often than u think. ;) :D

Have faith in the rest!

i don't think they are a one man team at all, they have one of the best squards in the world. they just happen to have a player who's much, much better then the rest, he'd be as big, or bigger in most cases, a loss to any other team.

If they are as good as u say, the rest of the team will have to take it upon themselves to find a way to win even with a loss as great as Rooney. :)

You're right Snowy! In all sports someone always emerges from obscurity when the big game or tournament comes around. It seems that England (more than most) always pins their hopes on 1 or 2 players. I can't recall many...if any...English players who have been successful outside of England. I wish Alan Shearer was not injured and could play one more time for the Empire.

England is getting more interesting by the minute. I may just change my favorite!.....(don't tell slammer!)

Brazil looks really tough....Argentina has a guy, Requelme, who is awesome!

I think I'm having an anxiety attack!!

    Playing somewhere, big ed

Oh.....does Oztralia have a Rugby team? I though the "All Blacks" were from elsewhere!

I'd love to see the "Roos" advance at least to the 2'nd round. If anyone can get them there, Guus is the man!

All they have to do is play by the "Rules", big ed

Ps...BTW...I keep a Rug...by the door to wipe me feet and blow me nose!

Heck of a match.....both teams impressive! One of the rare times I have to agree w/the comments on the "Officiating". Usually, after a short period of play, the teams have an idea of how the Ref is going to call the game. This guy was very inconsistant and made a few horrendous decisions. Of course the announcers on ESPN 2 were at their idiotic best.

The Spanish kid, Fabregas for Arsenal, is amazing for one so young!

Of course, Ronaldinho for Barca, is...well.....Ronaldinho!!

Unfortunately this was a match in which the outcome was determined by the Officials!

    Oh....Barca 2....Arsenal 1

    Play on, Dissapointed ed

    Agree fully.
Totally dissapointed: after a mere 18 minutes the game was 'stolen' from the (neutral) football lovers. I really had been looking forward to this one, to see how the two best teams of europe, -and apart from that playing in the most beautiful way, the way football is supposed to be played- would have done against each other.
It wasn't meant to be...:'( a missed opportunity to make great advertisement for the sport... tnx to that farce of a referee.
    YUK
And perhaps even worse: this also meant one player never could get the farewell he deserved so badly.
That bloody Arsène Wenger now had an excuse not to bring Dennis on the pitch; and so he didn't...:'( :'( :'(

    :isay: It's a bloody shame.:thumbd:

Hello everybody, now I'm a newby to this site, but I would just like to say
"GO NEDERLAND" I may have lived in New Zealand for 25 years now but when it comes to Football yes my heart belongs to the Oranje...

Me myself I can't wait for the Holland(or "the netherlands")to anyone else
and Argentina game.... Lot of revenge coming up here for the '74 final.

You found the right place to follow and share all the passion for the upcoming Worldcup here in the 10F dungeons; don't get scared by all the nuts :D down here, they're all very nice and harmless people. Expecting lots of activity in this topic in the following weeks with friendly, fair but sharp discussions.
Apart from that: You've come to thé expert site for all your computer- and security issues.

    See you around! :)

P.S. No offense but you got our trauma's mixed up...:'( you were referring to the final of 1978? We already cleared that one in 1998 (2-1, remember magnificent goal Dennis Bergkamp?)
Hoping to get the chance to get rid of The 1974 Trauma against Germany this year, once and for all :p :D ;)

Wanna hear a nice retro-tune? Check it out overhere and Play Der Schlager: Da sind wir wieder!
Get ready for a total orange invasion of the Heimat :D

Marco van Basten is back in town...

    Hey nieuwe,

I'd like to add my welcome along w/slammer! This is the only Football thread I've seen that maintains a bit of reality! Hope you return often w/some of your insights. We promise to be gentle!

After some reflection on WC '02, where all of the pre-tourney favorites crashed, I'm having 2nd thoughts on who to pick. Brazil can never be discounted....Argentina (I've always rooted against them) looks pretty good and Oranje...it's now or never!! I can't see anyone else at this point in time.

    Play on, big ed

    Thanks for thye welcome.

Now yes I must apologise for the wrong year 78 not 74. You are correct. Just a traumatic decade really. I really do believe that oranje have what it takes this year. Van Basten has removed all the dead weight(and players who thought they were bigger than the team). And if he could only persuade Berkamp(all hail the great) to play it would be fantastic. But i can see a Nederland - Germany final. Oh what sweet revenge it would be

Ah yes, Dennis 'The Menace' Bergkamp! One of the few truly great #10's! He was a joy to watch. Right up there w/Pele, Baggio, and Maradonna(talented but what a waste)!

    14 days to go!!

    Play on, big ed

Ps...Never....I say NEVER test slammers knowledge of Oranje History!! He wrote it!!

They will certainly be one of the Teams to watch. Ole Guus Hiddink, a Oranje former coach, has a knack for getting the best out of his players. I hope the Roos go beyond the 1st Round.
    Everything after that is gravy!
