Yes, very nice move from 'Saint' Gus. Our OZ friends should be happy now :)
Johan 'Secundo' (as he was named in his Barcelona-period by the socio's, I don't have to tell you who was Johan #1, do I? ;) )

was a great player in his days.
With Ajax Amsterdam he won 3 European cups, 1 worldcup (clubs), a couple of championships and national cups; in 1974 he moves to Barcelona to become Spanish player of the year in 1975; with Barca he wins the Spanish cup in '78, and the European cupII in '79. In that same year he moves to the states to play for a couple of years with the NewYork Cosmos.
He even played for one season for my hometownclub FC GRONINGEN, at the end of his playing carreer.

With the Dutch national team he becomes 2nd of the worldcups in Germany '74 and Argentina '78.

As a coach he has assisted Hiddink before in worldcup 1998 with l'Orange, which was quite succesful, remember? (semi-finals, 4th place)
After that he has coached NEC Nijmegen for a couple of years, lifting that modest team to become a steady Dutch 1st league club.

He has the right winning-spirit, and likes tough play & killers mentality; so he should fit in quite nicely with the Australian sports attitude.
I believe they'll love him.

Lots of succes, mates!
I'll be rooting for you, soccerroos!

[MOVE]GO, OZ GO !!! :D [/MOVE]

Gosh, looking at this video I suddenly realize that we miss him so much (Zlatan Ibrahimovic that is)
Though cursed because of his solistic performance, and therefor missing a lot of chances, he also has some fabulous moves and goals to offer.
Ajax is in crisis, at all levels, and I fear the new striker Huntelaar (coming from SC Heerenveen) will not solve the problems on his own, in the near future..:doubt:

Chelsea put on red alert after late wake-up call

Kevin McCarra Stadium of Light
Monday January 16, 2006
The Guardian

Arjen Robben's joy was interrupted by a red card. He had just scored a lucky winner that deflected off Dean Whitehead in the 69th minute and was revelling with the Chelsea support behind the goal when Chris Foy showed him a second yellow card of the match.

Wonder where he picked this up?
Arjan Robben was guest of honnour last Friday at his first club FC GRONINGEN, celebrating and performing the official opening of their new stadium Euroborg.
He was witness of a memorable win in the Northern derby against alltime rivals SC Heerenveen (2-0). Scorer of the 2nd goal, Danny Buys, made a simular leap over the advertisement-boards to feast with the fans (see photo)
Arjan Robben was very impressed with this stadium, and the win of his former club; expressing he would really love to end his playing-carreer in Euroborg, one day.

Perhaps he subconsciously remembered Danny Buijs' jumping action and copied this action after his own goal...o_O
(The superstitious folks among us might add that in the end still one man from Groningen had his postponed Friday-the-13th bad luck....:doubt: )

If players aren't allowed to celebrate with their fans anymore; where's the joy of football left then?
Silly red card, if you ask me...

Uh....sorry slammer,

My read of the match report was that it was for "excessive" celebrating! Time wasting in any form, especially late in the match, is unacceptable to me by "any" team. Surprisingly enough even Mourinho said it was a dumb thing for Robbin to do as he had been booked earlier. Of course he went on to say that Robbin shouldn't have gotten the 1st yellow! Again the Ref gets blasted for applying the rules!

Play on, big ed

Ps...One of my Sons picked Oranje in a pool to win '06!

BOLLUCKS!:p ;)
It didn't look "excessive" to me. Define "excessive"!

Don't agree. Ref can easily add any injurytime for the 'wasted' celebrations, so he shouldn't make a fuss about it. Sport is all about celebrating!

Well then: CHANGE THE RULES :p

Hmm... I didn't (yet ;) )

regards,
slam:cool:

P.S. Nice young matador we got with darts since yesterday, er? :D Great victory at the Lakeside.

Excessive= Inordinately overstepping the boundaries imposed by Authorities...ie..leaping into stands, delaying free kicks, throw ins, etc.

Change the rules! Fair enough....that is not likely!

Why is it that you only see these types of behavior when a team goes into a lead? If it had been only the tying goal Robbin would have immediately grabbed the ball and raced to mid-field to get the ball back into play!

Play on, big ed

Ps....Yeaaa for the "Dart" guy....sounds dangerous to me! Do they have to wear helmets?
