And we all know how good they are at weeping! :p ;)

Well, most starts are difficult; the Canadians at least managed a point after falling behind 0-1 very quickly. Full time: 1-1
Good luck for the rest of the tournament!

    Well Slammer,

Have a swimming holiday. The two weeks of rest should give you ample time to consider all of the possibilities that I have been hounding you about. I need to know your picks ASAP so that I can choose all of the opposites.

Awaiting w/baited (phew) breath, big ed

Waddaya mean I don't know much about Dutch Football. While it's true I'm not very familar w/the Dutch League I follow a lot of your Intenationals. I also know that they prefer wearing wooden cleats, that the song "Tiptoe Thru The Tulips" is the Anthem played before every match while the teams do a hilarious version of The All Blacks "Haka". I hear it's quite a spectacle.

    I do appreciate the thought!!!

    Ouch!!

But to be fair, given the sorry state of sports in the US of A, and being the kindly share the wealth Country that we are, deporting Malcolm was the only option. I'm sure that $$$ played no part in this!!!

that's the difference between The Buccaneers :D and Chelsea; Chelsea are owned by a billionaire. Abrahamovic can spend millions with no trouble, he can even lose millions and still be happy, as long as Chelsea are doing well - he loves the club and wants the best for it. whereas the Bucc's are owned by a millionaire who had to borrow money to buy the club. the money has to be recouped from somewhere, probably by pilfering Man U's resourses and to the deprivation of the club. he hasn't ever been to Manchester, never mind Old Trafford. Oh well, i can't say i'm sorry, serves them right for singing songs about Chelsea being owned by a foreigner

As I have posted previously, It has been a long, long time since I have had a favorite team. I mostly enjoy watching individual players such as Bergkamp, Hyypia, Shearer, and Heskey (yea..Heskey...he's had trouble scoring but there is so much more to his game!) and a few others. I highly doubt that we will get to see a match like Liverpool vs Milan in the near future. Like everyone else I was ready to pack it in at halftime!

I just want to see a good match, nothing more!!

i too enjoy great individual skill like the John Barnes goal against Brazil or the Roberto Carlos free-kick or the Van Basten goal when he was inline with the corner flag. but, the thing that effects me most is whether Chelsea have won at 5 O'clock on a Saturday.

i like to dislike all other teams too. :D

I have a tape of a game w/Barnes and Ian Rush (in their last yrs) playing for Newcastle vs Arsenal. Arsenal won the match 3-0 but to watch those two perform even after having lost a step or two was magical. Football is one of the few Sports left that I enjoy watching regardless of who is playing.

I like to dislike the favorite (especially if they are arrogant)...A team of World Class players will not always defeat 11 good players that make up a 'TEAM'!!

    There's hope again for DownUnder :) :

Dream-maker Hiddink becomes wizard of Oz

Guus Hiddink's appointment as Frank Farina's successor as Australia coach offers him quite a challenge: his mission to take Australia to their first FIFA World Cup finals since 1974.
Australians are hoping the Dutchman can work his magic on the Socceroos, like he did with the South-Korean team in WC 2002 (leading them to semi-finals).

Hiddink will combine his task together with his duties to his recent employer, clubteam PSV Eindhoven; as was taken in consideration within a clausule in his contract. Clever man. ;)

    Hey slammer,

C'mon get real!! I know you are trying to be 'Diplomatic' but do you (or I) really believe that the US of A deserves that ranking? I've watched them play their last couple of matches and they were painful to witness. I'm fairly certain they will field a presentable team for WC '06 but they had better get their act together!

The job that Hiddink did in So Korea was phenominal. They were one of the most exciting teams to watch. I was lounging on my bed watching the game against Italy and fell on the floor twice when they scored their goals. I'll be keeping my eye on the Ozzies.
