IMHO, one of the worst rules in soccer.

Not fair at all. It is a team sport, not one man against all others.

Both teams should keep playing until the tie is broken. :)

Just for clarification purposes: The standings in the link above show in fact the endrankings (and qualifiers) of the preliminary-rounds of the EURO2004 tournament, which have taken place over a period of the last 2 years! :)

Just to be sure there's NO confusion about wether the final round already had started!
Opening match is due for Saturday June 12th 2004 in Porto, Portugal:

    Portugal vs Greece

    Can't hardly wait! ;)

Never mind the Dutch - they'll never ever will win this cup!

Best team world wide (never mind time!):

    - goal keeper: Lev Yashin
    - defense: Franz Beckenbauer, Ruud Krol, Berti Vogts, Nobby Stiles
    - mid field: Diego Maradonna, Platini, Socrates
    - forwards: Johann Cruyff, Pele, George Best

Who mentioned anything (yet) about winning this cup? :) ;)
(Sadly, I happen to agree with you on this one, Blue moon...but that doesn't mean I stop supporting my Dutchies!:D )

But that's not what this thread is all about- before you know it, this might turn in to an ordinary shouting and bluffing contest; I for one don't wish to go there. (edit: though a little bluf never hurts and comes with this all; stay nice, polite and respectful. :))

My intention is to share the joy, anticipation and entertainmentvalue of the sport in general and this upcoming cup/tournament in particular.
I just invite everybody to contribute emotions, stories, newsfacts, histories, pics etc etc about soccer.

It's the journey that counts, not the destination.
(though sure, that would be nice as well...! :D)

About your all time favourit squad:

I can perfectly live with those eleven!!! :D
    Great choice.

Ok.. let me get on over here.. Coming from a country which can be called a minnow in terms of soccer, that is India.. the craze is hell of a lot though. It will take time when we will be catching up the big guns.. but we were one time good too but yes, never did we do something great yet. We are now being a little proffessional starting with our national league.
About my favourite team.. it will be Argentina.. Back here in India.. we love south american style of football .. more skills than power or tough football. For me.. Maradona was, is and will be my all time hero. But yes... Beckham is one no doubt a miracle player too. Ah.. yes.. my favourite club... Real Madrid and Liverpool. Some others I would pay to watch... Zidane, Henry, Rivaldo, Ortega and Figo. Maybe I missed some greats.. I may edit and add.. I love soccer...
And yes... Netherlands.. is one great team... they as a team only can boast of world 11 .. Bergkemp, Overmars, De bour brothers, Reizeger, Davids, Deoff... man.. didnt we miss them in the last world cup :(

    Regards

    Hey Sub! Welcome aboard! :D:)
but I have to say the Dutch had only themselves to blame for not qualifying for last worldcup...sadly it's a tendency that goes along with brilliance in this country....namely: Laziness and being too cocky...
    Pity...
Perhaps it's because of this generation being brought up in relatively good wealth -not ever having to struggle for anything in their lifes-
The Dutch always can bring up (even more than) eleven worldclass players.... what they usually lack is fighting spirit when the going get's tough....the one cup they did win (EURO 1988 in Germany) was the exception; here stood a team of friends with character who weren't afraid to push each other the extra mile when called upon.

    Johan Cruijff once said:
    "Every disadvantage has its' advantage"

I fear it can be the other way around as well....

    ;)

Nice to see you here, please feel free to return, Sub!
    GO INDIA :D

I am always everywhere... but its been a kind of busy real busy time for me for last few months.. dont know its going to change much in near future. But..I am here everyday , and will be.. dont worry about that :ninja:

GO INDIA :D :D :D .. where ?? I can only see we will go nowhere if we do not improve proffessionalism and will power. Laziness... its a contagious disease.. and .. who knows.. maybe the Netherlands team had a visit to India or Indian team there... heh.. we are infected..

    Announcement:

Because of the centennial celebrations of the world soccer assoiciation FIFA, in a few hours, tonight (20:45 GMT + 1hr) in Paris, France

a friendly game will be played between the last two worldchampions (1998 and 2002), who happen to be the numbers 1 and 2 on the current FIFA world ranking:

    Brasil vs France

    This is a "must see"!

    Enjoy!

    grtz,
    slammer

edit after match: Alas, sadly this friendly ended in a dissapointing 0-0 draw; an exceptional major anti-advertisement for the game... shame on those two world-class teams to miss out a good opportunity to promote the magic of soccer. Ah well, EURO2004 is another chance, and we will not get dissapointed there.:) -Slammer.

I live inthe US so our league does not have all the tradition that the Euro leagues have. :( I am excited to go see Freddy Adu play this summer. If you don;t know about him he is 14 years old and plays for DC United in the MLS. Man. U. also tried to sign him and when he was only 11 a team in Italy's Serie A ( i think it was Padova) tried to sign him

Very, very talented indeed. Let's hope he'll survives next say 6 years (most juvenile talents drop out before maturing a bit).

And for the record: France will win this cup, both hands tied behind their back. I do bet all Detox's rum on that (sorry Detox :D )

    regards.

No offense mate, but since sir Beckham a) is experiencing the first quite often these days as it seems b) must have lost his boot-laces during the proces(ses?) c) as a consequence suffers from major fatigue: better reconsider...
