I can see where you might have to work on that handicap a bit! :D

Ha! You know those two putts that Phil missed (on 17 I think) would normally been "gimmes" for him.

Have you ever seen the Pros just casually walk up and quickly tap in a putt that's a couple of inches from the hole? I've seen Phil do that when the ball was (it had to be) 6 inches away. And I never see them miss. Every time I try that the ball rolls way past the hole. No such thing as a gimme with my game!

My biggest problem is getting on the green. I would like to try a gimme sometime in the future. :D

Seem to remember Hale Irwin (of all the unlikely choices) do a casual, backhanded miss of a putt of about 12" a few years back. I think it ended up costing him considerable $$$$. You can bet it never happened to him again!

Who, in your opinion, is, was, the best putter in Golf?

In the more modern era, Ben Crenshaw (at his peak) was probably the best overall. Nicklaus, under big time pressure, probably made the most crucial putts.

I seem to remember Tom Watson being a great putter. When I get a chance I'll look on the USGA site. I'm sure they must have stats.

I would agree with Nicklaus. He was a deadeye on putts. Not to mention his long ball game. He was good.

Excellent choice! There was a time (mid 70s thru early 80s) that he was absolutely deadly on anything inside 10' or so. Got the "yips" in later years, as so many of us "mature fellers" seem to do.... :doubt:

Speaking of Tom, I was really impressed by his comments when his long-time caddie passed away recently. Really sorry I was too young to watch him in his prime. Classy guy.

That he is. His caddy's slow death from "Lou Gehrig's Disease" was very tough. Both men handled the Final Round with great dignity.

One more add Watson: 4th round of '77 (I think) Brit Open, with Nicklaus & Watson tied after 3 rounds. Nicklaus shoots 66....Watson shoots 65 to edge him by a stroke. One of the best shootouts ever. :D

I'm surprised anybody can break par in the British Open. Windtunnel effect! :D

I'm highly suspicious of courses where sheep are used to mow the fairways. :D

I would love to see that. I'm a HUGE college basketball fan, and occassionally watch ESPN classic. But they never seem to show old golf matches. I guess I need to subscribe to the Golf channel for that.

What do they call those "traps". The round holes that if you get in one, you are there for life? :D

True! And when you can get out, you usually have to travel the same direction that you came from!

That pot bunker next to the 17th green (The Road Hole) @ St Andrews was the beginning of the tailspin from which David Duval hasn't yet recovered. Took him FOUR shots to get out. I'm sure he still has nightmares of being buried alive in there. Went from #1 in the world (pre-Tiger) to a guy who frequently can't break "80".

    That's not a trap....it's a boobytrap!

Don't know if you saw pictures of the water left behind by Tropical Storm Allison about three years ago. Turned Interstate Ten into a giant ditch.

Thanks, max. I making a note (reminder) in my PDA now.

Before long it will be mid-summer, and you'll be praying for rain. Consider this an opportunity to frequent your indoor golf center. :D
