"Four of the 10 par-fours at Whistling Straits measure at least 493 yards and three of the four par-fives are long-distance numbers — the 593-yard No. 2, the 598-yard No. 5 and the 618-yard 11th."

Those 7 holes would require 2 new categories to accommodate me: par 4¾ & par 6.... :D

A little golf joke: Play it as it Lays

Bill and Ralph, both of equal ability, decide to have a round together and "play it as it lays" on all shots. Both hit their tee shots on the par-5 No.1 hole down the middle and about 260. They drive up for the second shot, and the Bill hits his shot down the middle for an easy approach. But Ralph slices his over the trees and it ends up in the cart path of the adjoining hole.

"Guess I get a free drop from the cart path," he says. "Oh no," says Bill, "We agreed. Play it as it lays." So Ralph drives Bill up to his ball in front of the green, drops him off and drives over to his ball on the cart path. Bill watches in amusement as sparks shower down from the practice swings of his opponent, then, in amazement as a perfectly struck shot lands on the green and roles to within 3 ft. of the pin. Ralph drives back to the green.

Bill says, "Great shot back there! What club did you use?" Ralph responds, "Your six iron."

Whistling Straits....1,100+ sand traps. I wouldn't have enough time left in my life to finish 18 holes there!

Then you'd better pray for wind, back tees & tougher pin placements tomorrow. Da boys shot the lights out today. I was kinda shocked!

Stuart Appleby (and caddy) musta set some kind of record for penalty stroke humiliation in that hazard (waste area) yesterday. FOUR strokes added to his scorecard. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

I understand that Tiger barely made the cut. I see he's now only 10 strokes back. Can he make a run for the win today? :doubt:

    Hi All!

I like to watch, but, don't play, tho my husband does some. Don't mean to but in but: this reminded me of your thread, Dazed. Found it with a whole bunch of golf posters, art, etc. By the way, I agree about Tiger, but, others are on the horizon, we will see if he can rein his ego in enough to get back with his coach and secure his legacy! The competition gets younger, wiser faster, he better look up from the tee once in a while!:)

    Cheers!Marja:cool:

I heard there was a 3-person playoff, with Vijay taking the gold. Sorry I missed it... :'(

Yep, his only birdie of the day was on the 2nd playoff hole. Gotta give him credit for hangin' in there, though. He coulda bagged it after shooting 76 in regulation. His 200+-yd tee shot on the par 3 #17 (the 2nd playoff hole) was a beauty. Led to the birdie. The very best hit shots like that under pressure. ;)

What's really kool now is that Vijay & Ernie are chompin' @ Tigger's heals in the battle for the #1 world ranking. Eldrick's been on the throne for almost 6½ years. It's time he felt some heat!!

Agreed. Maybe that will get Tiger motivated. ;)

Looks ties for second place. He's improving. I guess he's getting tired of being embarrased by "inferior" players.

It's a game of relentless pressure from so many other good players. One little "hiccup" in your swing and half the field zooms by in a heartbeat. Kinda like big-time auto racing in that respect. Even with his "B-" game, Eldrick has frequently been competitive. David Duval is proof of what can happen when one's game truly goes south. Tigger will always be measured against that impossible run he had in 1999-2001.

BTW, the PGA & TV networks are watching him closely. Negotiations begin in '05 for the contract renewal in '06. Tigger's impact on that cannot be overstated.

Maybe he should take a break for a while. Or maybe we expect too much.
