Is there any online site that allows you to scan file by file? The only one i found insists on scanning the whole computer which is dangerous.

  4. Hey man, I am one paranoid dude.. LOL.. and I never heard it's dangerous to scan the whole computer.. Are you talking online scans only? Or installed AV's too?

I'm asking politely, where did you hear that? Although I have to admit someone told me once NOT to scan the HD with an AV daily because it hurts the system.

I wonder why, if it's true?

Maybe it's because it actually is "installed" to the machine, and can do virtually anything it wants (after you confirm with the browser that you really want to run it) - ActiveX is basically program just like any other... Plus, it's often hard to get rid of it - no uninstalls are provided...

On the other hand, the online scanners working on the file-by-file basis require you to send (upload) the data to the remote site, without having to run anything on your CPU.

    Hi

I think what Madsen is trying toi say is that when you scan your whole hard drive, you are stressing your hard drive more than with normal use. If you watch your HD LED you will see it being hit very fast continuously during the scan. RULE being, the more you use your HD the sooner it wears out ;)
