Most of the changes are under the hood. The most important change is the inclusion of the Symantec's Quorum architecture - which keeps track of, as of this minute, 69,233,410 unique files - 10,285,009 of which are malicious. Every time we encounter a new file, it gets analyzed, rated and a unique identifier (a hash) is created and posted to our backend.

Our scanners, firewalls, web scanners etc use this information to provide more accurate detection and faster scans. We also can use the data for meta-heuristics - tracking the behavior of files across many systems to trace malicious activity and identify outbreaks.

    It also has
System insight - for tracking of how changes to your system impact peformance
File insight - to track the activity and performance impact of files on your system.
download insight - tells you the security rating of files when you download them - more than just a virus scan of the files
Far faster restore options - including accessing your backups from a web account
    Faster scan engine
Cloud architecture (in addition to Quorum)
    Improved spam filter
    Improved parental controls

That's all I can think of - it is definitely worth the upgrade - esp since it is free to registered subscribers. And worth a look if you are looking for a single solution for security, backup and tuneup.

I am currently running version 3 on a number of computers and have 250 days to go on the license. It was mentioned that existing users will be able to upgrade to version 4. What will you need to do yo upgrade, will it happen as a part of a liveupdate or will some manual action be required? Thanks for the assist

    .
My experience with Norton Internet Security is you can't rely on LiveUpdate for version upgrades. Instead of waiting just download N360 version 4 when it becomes available and install it over v3. It should automatically uninstall v3 in the process. Alternately you can uninstall v3 manually first, but chose the custom option so the settings and license key are saved. The key should automatically be inputed when installing v4.

No need to uninstall first. All you would have to do is download v4 once it is released, install it, and it will uninstall the old version.
