Do both these products use the same technology with 360 having just a few more bells and whistles or do they run differently, one heavier than the other, and offer different levels of protection?

Norton 360 version 3 uses engine 2009 (like NIS 2009 and NAV 2009)

Norton 360 version 4 (the very new one) uses engine 2010 (like NIS and NAV 2010) - same protection and technologies

Engine 2010 offers better protection with SONAR2 and in-the-Cloud Quorum.

In my opinion N360 feels a bit heavier than NIS and NAV but overall they are both light.

PC Mag has a review very recent one on N360.
Tests are made on NAV or NIS because they offer the same anti-malware protection like N360.

You can trial them. Personally , I'd prefer NIS

Me too, simply because it's lighter and I also have a license for it.

Doesn't 360 offer some extra features?thought it auto backed up files for you ans gave online storage, can you trial nis and then 360 to compare or only one of them?

Yes it offers some great extra features - I love that it does tasks only when I'm idle, just like NIS2010 does. The only thing I'm concerned about I think is the comparison chart that Symantec has. Look at it and I think you'll get what I mean... it's just weird since N360 is supposed to be the suite with everything in it. :doubt:

Would be good if an employee could get over here and explain.

Yes, so one wonders why there was approximately a five month delay between the release of Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton 360 Version 4....

NIS is more than enough for my needs. You have to ask yourself only, if you really need the extra features!!!
