Indeed, I was going to say the same thing. It's a simple box to uncheck.

You are correct as I have used and tested Norton since the company first started.

I am really wondering what kind of machines you guys have... No slowdown at all at my machine with 360 or IS2008. I did see slowdwons though with both Kaspersky and Eset Smart Security and AV.

Funny. NOD32 v3 breezed along as though it weren't there on an ancient 384MB RAM machine. NIS2008, on the other hand, completely refused to install...

ESS slows down the surfing. The http scanner of Norton is probably a lot better speed-wise. At my machine (3gb ram)

I could not disagree more and we have the same amount of ram. Try Avira or Dr. Web and compare it to NIS2008 or 360. If you are objective, you will observe that Norton http scanning is slower than Dr. Web, Avira, and it is slower than ESS.

It might be that my 20mbit line to ADSL in Holland plays a role in thios. I have no problem with Norton products. And ESS and Kaspersky really slowed down surfing. Prove enough for me.

And I hate Avira's security suite. It's ugly and it doesn't work right. Dr Web is only an av program.

I expirenced that too but thats not whats really matters. Software can react different on different machines with different setup and hardware. That has nothing to do with being "objective" *lol* as said before by Bunkhouse Buck.

Well, some people's definition of "objective" is agreeing with their opinions and views. A matter of semantics, I suppose.

Well it is certainly objective that NIS2008 refused to install on your machine-right? It refuses to not slow down my machines- that is why I prefer Dr. Web, Nod32, or Avira that run lighter (on my machines).

Come out from under that rock. I dont think you have a clue. There is absolute no credible report you can point to that says that drive-bys are on the decline. Have you read the Google Provos report at all. Give me a break.

Do you happen to mean the same Google that introduced the very weak and very ineffective StopBadWare initiative?

You're certainly welcome to your own opinion.

I got an email the other day from Symantec informing me that they were offering it's beta testers 2.0 at a discount of 39.95 USD. I did not receive a similar offer when I tested NIS 2008.
