I might check this out to see if the "web page hang" is fixed.

Do you know if the hang has to do with the phishing filter? I couldn't enable the filter with this beta.

I am not sure what was causing it because I thought it was satellite latency so I never looked into it.

Up until now 360 used the NAV '07 engine. This will be using the NAV '08 engine with the new features such as Browser Defender, Identity Safe, etc.

The "web page hang" is caused by the phising filter. It's not fixed in my copy though.

That figures since it is using the same engine as NIS now. I am missing Norton now mainly in the area of reports (history) that you do not get with OC.

I am now "feeling out" 360 2.0. Though the "hang" is still there it doesn't seem to be as severe as I experienced in NIS '08 (according to 360 the Phishing filter is on). Operation of the computer has the same feel as NIS. One thing I noticed first is that they have the option to shut down AutoProtect in right click context menu of the systray icon. I had to display the AP icon in NIS to do that (thus having two Norton icons showing in the systray). Also as NAMOR reported it now has right-click scan along with the options of "include in backup" and "exclude from backup".

I mentioned missing the history reports since using WLOC. 360 doesn't have the detailed reports as in NIS but does give you a daily summary of actions it had taken such as how many intrusions prevented, how many virus/spyware programs blocked, etc.

Backup is light-years ahead of WLOC 2.0's Backup. Along with other options it gives you the option of backing up to another internal hard drive which is what I want. Plus it gives you the option of adding files and folders to the Backup. There is also a full system backup option as well. However 360 costs more than WLOC so I guess it falls into the "you get what you pay for" category.

I haven't fooled around with PC Tuneup much yet. I did run the Registry Cleaner in which it found 25 entries that needed cleaning out. There are other options for File Cleanup, Optimize Disk, and Run Diagnostic Report which results in a HTML file for viewing.

I will run it for a while and see how things go. It expires in 15 days which I hope to get. Last time during NIS '08 beta the key expired on me after four days.

Who knows, maybe the yellow/black avatar will return, lol.

It seems that you have to go to activation to get the full 90 days (re-activate)....

I am interested in this myself. :)

I have noticed something strange though. Crimeware protection is turned off by default which is no big deal since it is the same way in NIS. The surprising thing is that SONAR is not on by default either o_O

    Another surprise: 360 2.0 only has 3 processes compared to NIS 08's 4 and NIS 07's 5.

I used Norton since the beginning of the company. I stopped using their security products after they got bloated a few years ago. I am currently Beta testing Norton 360, and I can tell you this is the lightest security software I have ever used- and I have used them all. This is much lighter than Nod32, Avira, AVG, and Dr. Web. It is actually hard to believe that it is even running on the machine. This program would be ideal for any user, but especially someone that wants little or no use of resources.

    Great job Symantec-great job indeed.

It appears that my original assumption was incorrect. 2.0 is either using a new or an improved version of NAV 08's engine.
