    Re: Norton 2011 released

    Here is Norton Antivirus 2011.

I installed it on top on my NAV 2010 , the upgrade was no-problem . The build is 18.0.1.37 and after initial Live Update , it didn't upgrade to any higher . Runs very well . I had some troubles with the latest BETA re. being a bit slow but it feels really light and this has probably been fixed for the RTM. Will see.

The onliest issue I noticed is that it didn't transfer all of my settings from the previous '10 version - just some of them. Have no idea if this is by design or not.

To be honest it's a bit of shame the builds have leaked and there is a lot more info elsewhere but not in the offical Norton site or forum.

NIS installed without a hitch and seems to be working wonderfully here.

Frankly Norton never expected it to be leaked this soon I'm sure. (Not really leaked more like Download servers probed) Keep in mind they have not had to deal with the "Popularity" that they have now got sense redoing NIS and NAV. With more people interested make a greater chance of leaks.

Well , yes , you are right. I think I am wrong now . This is the way they want it be , may be . Their increase popularity on their own and this is kind of expected marketing trick. Just drop the mass a little info and leave them find the way on their own.

    Re: Norton 2011 released

Just installed NIS 2011 in Windows 7 x64 without problems. It picked up the license from 2010 and activated automatically. It initially needs one update - maybe just sigs? I just ran "Insight" to classify files for scans. So far it's all good. I'll be putting this on a laptop a little later and I'm hoping it will be lighter then 2010 as someone here mentioned. Not that 2010 was a problem, but laptops need all the help they can get :)

Anyone tried this option yet ? From what I gather it's weeding out very old virus that really are not in the wild anymore.

    I have . :D During the BETA testing .
If you enable it , it will redownload another set of signatures which are 50% off when it comes to size (around 35-40 MB) . On theory should be faster but it is fast on my comp now anyway . Will have to update a few old and clumsy machines at the office tomorrow , monitor some days and then to tell .

This may work good then for this laptop as the chances of it running into the newer crap is much much greater then running into anything more then a year + old.

On any computers my kids touch tho I will leave it at full.

LOL. I spent the time to deinstall the beta from 5 machines at home as requested by Norton Community, then reinstalled 2010, and now I'm DLing trial 2011 to go through it all again to get back up to date on all of them.

    Thanks for link, King Grub!

Upgraded here from N360 4.0. Figured I dont really need the backup. Loving it so far. I was surprised it retained all my settings, even though I upgraded to a different product.

    Great job Symantec!

    Re: Norton 2011 released

I think they are very close to release. Look here

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/supp...d_nav=3&pvid=nis-2011&docurl=20100809152020EN

You can choose NIS 2011 and NAV 2011 but when you click the link it still comes up with the 2010 version pr now.

By the way. I have read several post about people saying that if they want a trial version of norton(any version) they must leave theire creditcard first.

There is a way around.. When you enter symantec.com, at the bottom there is a link "Downloads", the new site you come to, under NORTON, choose "Get help with downloads ", on the new site, choose category "Download & orders", you then come to another site called "I want to install my Norton product on additional computers " VOILA.... There you have the latest download links for all norton products.

Of you install them without a licensekey they will work as a trial and you only will need to buy a license as normal.

You can see on the top of the downloadpage there is a small button "Available Translations" there you can choose your own language as well.

Just wanted to share with you in case anyone hasn`t found out yet. I see they have not released the 2011 versions yet but they are probably close
