I used to hate norton. I think 2010 is the fastest and most stable av out there and i have been trying 2011 for just over a week on my desktop and think it's going to be awesome. It's also very refreshing to see paid for security programs actually beta testing their products until they are stable unlike some of the buggy horrors others release!

I agree with you. I recently tested Norton AV 2010 and was most impressed by a number of things. The total impact on system performance was very very low for an AV with such advanced technologies built in. I have 3 suggestions though -
    1. Add support for browsers other than Firefox and IE for the IPS module.
    2. Revise the list of supported IM clients. Add support for Skype and Pidgin.
    3. Make scan of SSL based email-client connections possible.

I am using Norton IS 2011 beta. I am finding it to be one of the best running AV/IS suites that I have used. There have been zero problems. I bought a couple of licenses for 2010 off ebay. I may keep it, but do want to see how Norton does on the next couple of tests by IBK.

    Regards,
    Jerry

I am not sure if this has been posted but Symantec Security Response has made it ready and now both the Intelligent updater and Rapid release defintions are compatiable with version 2011

In case you need to do an offline update , you can now use this even with version 2011

In case you have come across a new threat and Symantec release a rapid updates , install them from here

Another sign the final release of 2011 is coming ~ soon

FYI -- According to this thread on the Symantec forum, SONAR 3 has already shipped via LiveUpdate to users of Norton Internet Security 2010.

No . SONAR was first introduced in v2009 , SONAR 3 (version 3) is Norton 2011. SONAR is behaviour analysis while Insight is the cloud (Insight Network , Download Insight , File Insight , etc.)
However , they all use data from each other.

I have thought that for a while but I found conflicting information on Wikipedia and subsequently Symantec.com.

My 2011 bets as not updated today. When I use the Live Update it says I have the latest. I am surprised no updates today.
    Anyone else?
    Regards,

Norton beta doesn't update as frequantly as non-beta. Full sugnatures are released once per week (appr.) This is normal behaviour and will not be fixed till final version.

If you want you may try offline update (as posted above).

    Thanks.
I also noted that I do not have the latest version. I decided to go back to 2010 for the 14 days I have left on the trial of 2010.

Norton IS 2011 ran perfectly except for the update. The reason I returned to 2010 is that I don't want to have to do the clean install updates for the newest version. I realize that is part of being a beta tester.

Unless I return to Avira IS suite I will get Norton IS suite 2011 when it goes public.

    Regards,
    Jerry

I totally agree with you. Symantec realized the old suite was bloated and fixed it.

I would think it would be sooner then this as New computers are already shipping with it.. So waiting a month + to release on CD would be well kind of dumb.

As far as I can remember a year ago v2010 was released pretty much the same time (end of September) . Have really no idea (~snip~) . Time will show :thumb:

I wonder if Norton DNS and Norton Power Eraser will be out of beta testing and released on the same date, too?
