    My opinion:
    Adequate but not perfect.
Good to have a layered approach with NOD. Since NOD does viruses pretty well but is not strong in terms of Trojans and now spyware. (by layered I mean AT and AS).
Pales in comparission when it comes to KAV and Mcaffee. (detection wise) (very good overall virus, trojan, spyware detection especially in Extended and Xbases (kav)).

This forum itself is one great reason to use NOD!

I have a KAV AV on two machines, NOD32 on one machine and one of the free AVs on a forth machine.

From my end NOD32's Trojan detection has improved greatly.

Even though we have BOClean running with NOD I haven't seen it react to anything NOD32 may have missed for over 7 months. It seems NOD32 has really improved its Backdoors and Trojan detections.
Note: the On-demand comparatives, Feb. 2005 "Results over Backdoors, Trojans and other Malware detection" at

I also notice that is KAV missing a lot of current day stuff that other AVs with good heuristics are catching now. NOD32's AH is one of the main reasons I actually prefer NOD over KAV plus it works better on a game machine at my end.

Just a reminder to all, please keep the discussion focused on NOD32 and let's try to keep this thread from devolving into a NOD32 vs. X (X = my favorite AV).

I know, it is sometimes hard to do that when trying to make a specific point, and yes I fall victim to that tendency myself. But let's focus on NOD32's perception in mainstream discussions.

My own read - it's a combination of OEM sourcing, print journalism advertising, and regional tastes. In some regions, what we (meaning US and western EU) would consider exotic is mainstream - this is independent of the subject. Same with AV's.

Now, why are some of the offerings emerging from this region of the world, NOD32 for example, particularly good? I'm not sure, though my suspicion (being from a technical background - so I'm not completely out on a limb here) is that their higher education training in some of the underlying fundamental disciplines (pattern recognition, fundamental and applied mathematics, etc.) is quite strong.

    Thanks.

    Firecat,

Speaking only for myself here - no problem.

There is a difference between single OT excursions which keep flow in a thread and wholesale detours of the thread onto a distinctly different line of discussion. It's the latter which is to be avoided. The former is the flavor and taste of any forum (IMHO)
