Any opinions on using ESET Smart Security vs other firewalls ? I'm using the ESET firewall now and I would say it is fine - but I'm always looking for more protection.

It all depends on if they have hips is what makes some products different from others as a pure firewall esets is just fine and more configurable then say Windows XP Firewall. :D

Why would it be closed.... ? this is a firewall forum A vs B is allowed here but besides that, there is nothing here to get it closed in the first place.

I think it's allowed except in the antivirus category.
People tend to get emotional about their favorite av programs.

On firewalls it is pretty the same, a lot of heated discussions on who is best Comodo/OA/HIPS/No HIPS/etc... never understood why "a vs b" only applies to antivirus. Not fair :D

Fax, if you have doubts or concerns about this PM Ronjor or LWM.

    Back on topic:

Eset firewall in Eset Smart Security is a pretty decent firewall when you compare it to the Windows Firewall that comes integrated to Win XP SP-2 or Windows Vista. It's more configurable and you can set rules easily. I find the firewall on Windows Vista a little bit complicated when it comes to set rules for outbond connections.

    Best regards,

    Carlos

Thanks was I was looking for. I've had some trouble setting up ESET's firewall, but I guess all of them have there quirks in the configs. Do the "hardening" utilities work just as well with Windows firewalls as with 3rd party?
