    Module Overlap and Recommendations

There appears to be a lot of redundancy between the various NOD32 modules. For instance:

    AMON and DMON
Since AMON scans office documents (with the default file extension list, or with the 'scan all files' option) on access, does DMON offer any additional protection? What is the recommended configuration to ensure full protection without duplicated scanning?

For instance, DMON checks also ActiveX elements as they are downloaded by Internet Explorer. By contrast, in this scenario AMON would detect a threat after the file has been written to the disk.

AMON, IMON and EMON for Outlook using SMTP/POP3
Similarly, if Outlook is used with SMTP/POP3 accounts, is there any advantage to using EMON in addition to IMON and AMON? What is the recommended configuration in this case?

If you use MS Outlook it's better to use EMON for checking email as it scans outgoing email also. Those who use SSL/IMAP may take advantage of EMON in conjunction with MS Outlook. This is possible only thanks to MAPI so there's no chance IMON could decipher SSL emails.

Re: New Command-Line Params Not Working

What, not even "Please send an e-mail..." ? ;)

Seriously, since this forum is apparently an 'official' support channel for Eset, and Eset have established this thread to discuss the 2.5 beta, and Eset employees monitor this forum, I don't see the point of having to duplicate my efforts.

Re: New Command-Line Params Not Working

    My issues so far:

    * EMON got installed, even though I don't have Outhouse installed.

    * I configured my Early Warning System settings with the dialog that came up automatically after the first boot, but those settings were completely gone when I went into the NOD32 interface to check them.

    * The default task named System startup file check, which is set to trigger at user logon, doesn't get triggered when I boot or logon. I tried changing it to trigger at system start, rather than at user logon, but it still doesn't run.
I was wrong about this. I overlooked the "maximum" time setting. (Thank you, NOD32 support, for setting my head straight!) By default, the startup scan task won't run more than once per 24 hours. I simply deselected that option, to make it scan at every logon, regardless. (I also removed the time restriction from the other startup scan task--the one that runs when the sig database is updated.)

There doesn't seem to be an option to set the heuristic setting to low, standard or deep like there used to be. I presume heuristics are set at a standard level now.

I too found the fact that emon installed on a machine without outlook a little odd - I'd go further, and have it prompt for emon on a machine where Outlook or OE is found but is NOT the default mail client.

Now running a full scan on my wife's machine with every option maxxed out... it seems to be significantly slower than 2.1...

    Reply:
The in-depth analysis in the beta is slower of course because of the new facilities like scanning SFX archives and NTFS streams.
A scan with the aforementioned options disabled should not last longer than before.

    Good Morning together.

I don't understand that at all.

Is this now the new NOD 32 Release ?

    I thought, it will called a 2.13.X Version ?

So, is it the right Version for me to download ? o_O

I don't work for them. If you want polite, go somewhere to eat that has good service. ;)

Third line in the download post...
Having everything sent to one email address just keeps things clean from a tracking perspective.

The EMON config Screen is different to every other which create a inconsistancy between GUI.

According to a post Above EMON scan IMAP. But IMON Scan POP3.
Now, if EMON does scan IMAP why is it called Outlook Monitor. Because that sounds more like M$ Advertisement to me. A lot of other product uses IMAP.

The spliting between EMON and IMON. May be that is how they work on programming level but as a user i don't think i need to know it. Why can they be merged as one. Since you can disable POP3 in IMON so you could do similar with Disable IMAP in IMON. Same with DMON. I would rather have a option in AMON setup screen to disable it.

P.S where is the license key file thing..... i saw it in setup screen but can't find it anywhere else.

I think the MAPI feature does more than check emails? I'm not sure though..

    MAPI
    Messaging Application Programming Interface

Microsoft and other companies developed MAPI (pronounced "mappy") to enable Windows apps to access a variety of messaging systems, from Microsoft Mail to Novell's MHS. But MAPI works on a more everyday level, too: so-called mail-aware applications can exchange both mail and data with others on a network.

Is there a special Link to the german Version ?

I couldn't install the english Beta over my german Version.

    Reply:
There is only Slovak and English beta available for the reasons I explained you some time ago. It's not possible to install it on a different language version unless you uninstall NOD32 and reboot the machine (also we recommend to delete the program files\eset\install folder before you begin installing the beta)

    EMON works exclusively with Outlook

License keys is a tab in the NOD32 System Setup

so far the new nod32 beta has been great. i only have one comment. altho this was present in the previous version, i never bothered to comment on it. in the advanced setup tab for imon, there is an option to Log intrusion attempts to the virus log. i was wondering if there was any significance to this as nod32 is first and foremost an antivirus. sounds like an IDS, but wouldnt IPS (block the attack) be better?

i would like for nod32 to detect Smiley Central as a threat..
i downloaded & installed it (on purpose) to see if its detected or not, cuz less experienced ppl in my family ALWAYS get it (aka dad & friends) id like 2 stop it if all possible :p

<goes to adaware to remove it>

EDIT: does eset plan to detect all spyware/malware that other programs like adaware/spybot do?

ALL in ALL They are Going in the right Direction>>>>

    Cheers to Eset!!

The embedded username/passsword is only for not registered users. If you reinstalled NOD32 over the previously installed commercial version, your username and password will be retained.

I just did an on demand scan and it took about twenty percent longer but the extra protection is worth every bit of the difference in scan speed
