I noticed that there are no updates regularly during the weekends. Does ESET think that weekend updates are unnecessary? Does ESET rely on their heuristics engine? But it can fail in hard situation... So, I wait for an answer.

There was simply nothing urgent that would require immediate update during the weekend. An update will be released shortly.

And what about previous weekends? I said that it happens regularly. Do you say that virus activity is lower during weekends?

Did you notice an outbreak that Eset didn't react on?

No, I didn't. But if you want to say that the absence of updates doesn't affect the overall quality of virus catching, I will believe you. It's just an interesting regularity. I tried to understand why but I haven't got an intelligible answer.

Sorry for interfering but I could not help it.:)

Auren, give the guys a break.
Marcos, no need to be so touchy, :ouch: Auren just made a remark, lots of us have thought about it but never made a remark.

Not 100 % of Customers can be 100% satisfied, you will get some who are either unsatisfied for no reason or dissatisfied for a reason but after all " a customer is always right or isn't ? " o_O

No offense meant, keep up the good work you guys.:)
Nod32 is and will stay on the Top 15 Anti-viruses list:thumb:

I'm a 200% satisfied NOD32 user. It's just interesting for me to know. I absolutely didn't want to blame anyone.

    Auren,

nothing personal, :) I made a general remark and being a 9-5 guy, I understand that even Eset's employees deserve a weekend off, once in a while.
Except if they work in 8 hour shifts, round the clock , are they(you) Marcoso_O?

Auren does this satisfy your curiosity?

Do I use the well known saying "overworked and underpaid"o_O?

Marcos I knew that the IT sector in Europe is a competitive field but not that demanding??

Till the next voluntary post :thumb:

As I've already said, I'm absolutely satisfied no matter how does my NOD32 update process is done. But it was just a regularity that I couldn't explain for myself.

NOD32's excellent heuristics detection will cover the weekends.

Even heuristics is not perfect. However, we are ready to release an update at any time in the event of an outbreak.

    Marcos,:)

you are an asset to Eset
    honest
    smart
    and hard working
if only you could control your temper o_O
The question asked was about updates on weekends not if you are quick to respond to threats:)

    Auren :)
sorry if I misunderstood your intentions "to err is human"

    Hitech_boy,:)
hi neighbor to the North (guessed my country?? immediately South by the Aegean sea) the Eset guys, Threat Lab people included work 24/7, the think is that they work 12 hour shifts instead of 8 hours ones as EU labour law states
I hope they get lots of rest :doubt:

It is nice to joke from time to time, eh guys;)

I usually work 14 hours a day, excluding the regular 1 hour break.
Gotta pay the bills. I'm looking forward to work 5 more years as they just raised the retirement age by 5 years. So I'll work till I'm 70 if I live that long.

    Anyway .. I lost track.

You have submitted zillions of samples. Samples from our clients are prioritized before samples from virus collectors.

Marcos:-shouldn't the priority be given to how much of a risk the threat is rather than to who it is submitted by?

Of course, we do take it into account as well (e.g. email worms should have higher priority than dialers, etc.).

Is there a hierarchy in priority, or is this classified information.

Do not worry. 12 hours shifts 24/7 are fully legal accoridng to the EU legislation. The only thingy is that you should have enough people for every such a position to rotate.

    Hi mrtwolman,
I never said that your work/shift schedule is not-legal (although technically ... but forget it, this is a tech forum not a labour law one ):)

A simple amend, is it correct to say that by "people" you mean highly professional ones? cause unemployed people you can easily find, right?;)

Anyway, we now have an idea about signatures updates, work schedule etc but what is important, is for you guys to stay ahead of the bad guys plus keep your excellent "virus killer machine" nod32 in top shape.

Once more keep up the good work:thumb:

    Hi Marcos
Re shift patterns,if you work the shift patterns you describe there should be no difference between updates being done at weekends compared to updates being done mid-week:-every day should be regarded as the same as any other,in fact every minute of every day should be the same as every other minute of every other day:-that is the idea of a company running 24/7(well it is where I work!)
PS make sure you have wtd breaks!
