    Another network issue with W7 - Jan 2019 patches KB4480970 and KB4480960 ...

However this issue is more likely to occur with networked systems (shares not accessible). Standalone PCs should not be affected.

The workaround provided by MS in the KB article is for an outstanding (older) NIC issue. Try it if you are having issues but if it does not work uninstall the patch.

This workaround (in the attached link) provided by Born's Tech appears to be addressing the current problem with greater success. NB: It is a registry change. Apply the workaround before installing the January patch.

    Tomorrow is Patch Tuesday, right?
Then the above is going to start to happen. See MS article:
2019 SHA-2 Code Signing Support requirement for Windows and WSUS
It will be interesting to see how and in which way. Like for example: do we first have to install a separate "patch"? I'm not sure. We will see. But I guess a little warning is needed.

Why does everything have to be alarmist? It's not critical in any sense that your machine will explode or anything. You can always install the March update at any point in future to continue receiving updates. And it's not like anything special happens if you don't - in fact, it's healthy to wait some.

Way back in November 2014 I started this thread because of the consistent borkifcation by MS updates:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/bork-tuesday-any-problems-yet.370217/

Eventually M$ lost me as a customer when they even managed to make a pig's ear of any kind of updates on Win 7. I now own a desktop computer, two laptops and a tablet. None of them run Windows. And I'm a much happier bunny because of it. :thumb:

Good for you, but you must admit the previous version is missed. They could have done better if they had any real professional management in that group but chose not to so I whole heartily side with your decision on that.

On this end Windows 8.1 is picture perfect and I swear I cannot bork this OS if I tried. Have throwed everything and the kitchen sink through Windows 8.1 and you just can't kill this thing.

The only limitations has to do with hardware such as memory and the often encountered memory leaks from various compatible softwares that run on my 8.1 machines-but the trade off is been and continues to prove to be well worth it.

Thanks to @mood for posting up like clockwork the updates that Microsoft still peddle out to us diehard previous versions. :)

There's nothing diehard about using a fully supported version of the operating system :)
On the contrary, not rushing ahead is the right thing to do.

I liked Win 7. I would have used it until the end, but for a long time I couldn't update it though and I started to get concerned about security.

Whether Mickeysoft borked the updating on purpose (to convince Win 7 users to upgrade), or they're just incompetent, I don't care.

I now run macOS, Ubuntu, Chrome OS and Android. I'm finally free of Windows.

I would say both is a really safe assessment of the matter given their search n destroy policy they enacted (IMO anyway), in their haste to bully users from a once reasonably reliable & enjoyable Windows computer experience to one of utter confusion and loss of time, both of which they couldn't care less for given their arrogant monopoly of the O/S market.

Wish you all the happiness and satisfaction of never having to put up with them ever again.

Really they should go back to selling plastic Discs if you ask me. Oh yeah, and lame X-Box funniness

That's the problem with arrogant monopolies. Still, I'm sure they don't care that they've lost a customer. I enjoyed using Win 7, but I enjoy Unix/Linux more. Thanks anyway, I'm enjoying being Windows free, it's something I should have done years ago.
