    Hi Stupendous Man,
Just so I understand you right, and we both run the Dutch version of Win 7 (which makes it a bit easier):

I have "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked.

    MS_2018-10-20_01.png

Nevertheless I got it as optional "recommended".

    MS_2018-10-20_02.png

Or do I misunderstand you now?

Ah thanks, I was already wondering why the update wasn't offered, I didn't check in the Optional updates.

I never noticed whether or not the monthly .net update was downloaded as optional all the time or important all the time. You would think that it would be downloaded as important and not optional or recommended if it had security fixes in it from the past months or years.

You can look in your "History of Updates" (or whatever it is called in English).
I see there that most of the .Net Framework updates were "important" but sometimes they were "recommended". Well, that's what I see in that History list.

Why would the monthly W7 .net rollup be downloaded as recommended if it was for security fixes. That sounds like it should be downloaded as important update. Recommented might be no new security fixes for that month, but has new non security fixes for that month.

Are you sure it is offered in "optional", not in "important" updates?
If "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" is checked, and nevertheless you get 'recommended' update KB4459922 offered in "optional", not in "important" updates, I don't understand why that is. With that setting enabled, I would think a 'recommended' update should be offered as and in 'important'. If it is not, that is rather confusing.

I stand corrected. I thought that I was sure, but I was wrong. I put a backup-image back from 8 October and then let WU search for updates; I let it only search. This is not the order and way in which I installed the updates originally; but it was only a test. Anyways, the .Net Framework KB4459922 October update is indeed offered in "important" and its checkbox is checked. (BTW I let WU never search for updates automatically).
So, you were right and I was wrong. I do stand corrected. And of course I apologize; sorry!

Thanks very much for testing, FanJ. :thumb:
Good that "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" works as intended.

Oh, FanJ, no need for apologies, at all. We all are mistaken, sometimes, and that's OK! :)

FWIW: I have installed KB4459922 (Oct net rollup) on both W7/32 and 64 systems without any problems. All the prereq KBs were installed prior, re: known issues statement in KB.

FWIW: I have installed KB3177467 v2 on both W7/32 and 64 systems. All had SSU V1 previously installed. No problems encountered.
I am not an advocate of manually uninstalling SSU v1 after V2 is installed - I think it unwise. So in going forward... even though there will be two SSUs with the same KB number and identical code installed, windows update will always access the KB with the latest version number (it ignores dates).

FWIW: I have installed KB4462915 (Oct security-only) on both W7/32 and 64 systems, without experiencing any problems.

I have "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" unchecked also. Looking at my windows update history, most of the .NET updates have been labeled as "important". A few, including OCT and now NOV are listed as "recommended". The first .NET update to be listed as "recommended" was the 11/14/2017 one, the next was 02/16/2018, and now the OCT and NOV .NET updates. All the rest are shown as "important".
