    Thanks again!
It looks like Windows Update gets confused by the separate IE updates. When I checked for updates using WU, it offered an older cumulative IE update(forgot from when) which I installed. After that I installed the latest manual IE update, and now WU offers the cumulative IE update from Oct 2014.

Late to the party so excuse the questions. Mr. X thanks for the hard work. W7P64 here. I see the different x86 & 64 files.

What am I missing if I install both the Security Only Quality Update & the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer instead of just installing the Monthly Quality Rollup? Also if I just install the 2 updates will WU show additional updates are available?

So using these stand alone updates W7P64 will bork Windows Update?

Not sure what you are getting at. Avoiding borks is more likely why users prefer the standalone MSIs. Having more control over what gets installed is another. Users preferring the standalone package do so to avoid telemetry, past troublesome updates and driver updates.

    - A rollup includes all security, non-security and IE updates. All updates are cumulative (according to Microsoft).
    - The security-only package is not cumulative and does not include IE updates.

A user with Windows Update set to 'notify/do not install' still gets all the updates sent to them (except for the standalone IE cumulative update), e.g. MSRT, NETframework, monthly rollups, silverlight, MSE. Users can install, ignore, or hide what ever they receive.

My understanding is that Microsoft is in the process of cleaning up W7 by purging a ton of old, no longer applicable windows updates. The rollups will eventually include all updates that preceded the October 2016 rollup. They are doing this so the rollups will not be gigantic. When they finally complete the purges, the rollups will include all updates back to SP1. This could lead to some borks when released.
