    How do i do it globally? If i add my name to a certain shortcut security tab than won't it only apply to that shortcut?

    You can cross permissions off the list. Even in the super hidden admin account kaspersky pops up the same error. I also tried changing permissions on the autocad file but still no success opening it.

    Using Windows Explorer and visiting the installed AutoCad location, can you run the AutoCad application manually?

    Yes, the application itself works fine but the shortcut is still messed up.

    One of Coolio10 problems is with file permissions, in this case take the shortcut files properties of the "bad" ones in his Start Menu. There's only three available TABs, and the used icon showing is UNKNOWN icon one. Now take a look at my window capture from November 30th after having reproduced one of his problems.

    Regards,

    I made a .bat that should reset all permissions.

    I found instructions here:

    Here is a picture of another effected shortcut. There also still bunches of shortcuts without proper icons but they still function normally atleast. I believe there is only 3 that don't open a all.

    Are you able to view the installed QuickTime directory in C:\Program Files\ and see the QuickTime executable file?

    Hi Coolio10,

    You need to use the below to correct shortcut file permissions in %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

    Code:
    subinacl /subdirectories %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw

    The problem isn't permissions for sure. Some cleaner deleted the installer files of a few programs.

    You could try Vista Shortcut Manager.

    It only tweaks the shortcut arrow overlay or gets rid of it altogether but can repair some issues just by installing?

    Didn't work ..., means we didn't have the correct location then. Just depends on the problematic 'shortcuts locations', which likely be;

    %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\
    or
    C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\

    besides %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\

    Code:
    cd /d "%programfiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
    subinacl /subdirectories %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw
    subinacl /subdirectories C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw
    subinacl /subdirectories %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw

    Sure, ... that can be the one problem, but not the problem your experiencing with the installed shortcut files in \Start Menu\. The problem with the installed shortcut files in \Start Menu\ showing no associated application icons and with missing tabs in shortcuts properties are linked to shortcut file permissions.

    Often different programs installers installs at least three shortcut files in 'Start Menu', one primary link to the main application, another to an help file or webpage addy and it's uninstaller. Most of the programs I ever saw don't usually create 'Start Menu' shortcut file to an installer file, unless it's an program repair shortcut. However as shown with your previous images, they are to the main applications, ... and not to the installers.

    Shortcuts pointing to missing files would have their icons turned to an generic missing file icon, not to an unknown icon. see the attached image to see what an generic missing file icon looks like.

    If my previous post still doesn't resolve the problem then modify the following to include your username and run;

    cd /d "%programfiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
    subinacl /subdirectories %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw /grant=<YOURUSERNAME>=f /setowner=administrators
    subinacl /subdirectories C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw /grant=<YOURUSERNAME>=f /setowner=administrators
    subinacl /subdirectories %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=rw /grant=<YOURUSERNAME>=f /setowner=administrators
