    Hi Andy,

Although I feel you should best stay in the same topic where people helped you, can you check for the following file(s) present on your PC? :

    mtwirl.dll / mtwirl32.dll

Do a search for them and tell me which one is found and where

    Thnx

    Cheers,

    Hi Unzy

Wow that was a fast response !
    The following was found:
    mtwirl.dll in C:windows/system32 - size 14KB - dated 6/4/04
Did I post in the wrong topic ? - apologies if so - only a beginner at all this PC stuff.
    Thanks

    Andy.

No worries Andy, I thought you already had posted here in a topic, my mistake! ;)

Ah, that file needs to be removed from your system! Well done.

Can you download this utillity? :

    KillBox

Open it and in the 'path-box' copypaste :

    C:\windows\system32\mtwirl.dll

    And 'kill file'

    Restart PC after doing so.

    Then run this program :

    CWShredder

Open -> 'fix' -> click 'next'

    Hope this helps

    Cheers,

Wow - what can I say but thank you - I have just done above actions and re-booted and IE is no longer hijacked.
Should I re-run HijackThis one more time just to be sure ?

    looks OK now
Turn off system restore by following instructions here
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039

That will purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Then reboot & then re-enable sytem restore & create a new restore point.

Read here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.

& it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

Thank you folks - I now have clean and up to date PC - that sure was some service.
If there is any way of making a donation please let me know - I am not expert enough to help practically and would like to contribute in some way or other for your services.
One very happy customer - Andy.
