Since installing NIS 2010 I've noticed that when I run my normal defrag program (PerfectDisk 10)....it's more fragmented and cluttered than normal.

Does the Idle Time Optimizer in NIS 2010 defrag and re-arrange files on the drive as part of it's "optimizing" feature.....and could this be the cause of this?

Can someone shed more light on this (couldn't find any info in NIS 2010 help manual).

Is it safe /recommended to disable this feature?

Yes, the Idle Time Optimizer calls the Windows Defragmenter (in Vista/7) to rearrange the files. For Windows XP, only the boot files are optimized. And yes, you can safely disable it.

Thanks. I was wondering my my boot time was a bit slower than normal the past few days. I disabled it and ran PD and my boot time speed was restored. :thumb:

To be honest with you, I really didn't like the fact that Symantec included such a feature in a security software. They should've just left in Norton 360.

How did you disable the Optimization task? I can't figure out how to turn it off.

Go to the Miscellaneous Settings, then disable the "Idle Time Optimizer."

Thanks! I also use PerfectDisk 10 and don't want Windows defrag working as well.

No problem. I use PD myself and don't want any part of Windows Defrag.
