ok just installed and updated this baby beta.

any thing else i need to do? eg. change certain options??

 

Hi !

The default anti-spam , anti-virus and anti-malware options are OK . They will automatically block/eliminate threats and you'll automatically be updated.

You may check the firewall to ensure your are well-protected against hackers.
To do this , you can press User Interface and check Advanced interface.
Then click on Setup and open the Advanced setup tree
Find Personal firewall and adjust the settings so that they best fit your needs.

A few tips:
If you are home user and you don't have your own network , you don't share resourses , your Trusted zone should be empty (your localhost 127.0.0.1 can the there , though)

If you share resourses , your home network (subnet/IPs) should be in the Trusted Zone . Be careful not to place the internet to the trusted zone (your router/switches/ISP details)

In case your Trusted zone stays empty , ESS will ask you about your network , then you will need to answer

In Personal firewall you should also adjust the type of filtering :
Automatic mode applies to all users - in this mode ESS automatically decides what is good and what is bad for your. In Interactive mode you'll be asked for permission for every attempt for access by applications.

 

Would a home network be defined as one laptop with a wireless connection to a Linksys access point/modem/router (or whatever it's properly called)?
