hi, i am new to this forum and NOD32.
    I LOVE IT.

    But im confused.

Eset say NOD32 is an antispyware and i dont need any other antispyware, i just need a firewall.
    i have been using comodo.
    while
One Eset tech told me to install 'Online Armor' (7th) and remove comodo(1st in matousec leaktest) as it will conflict with nod 32.
    while
Another Eset tech told me to use 'Windows Defender + windows firewall' which im not to keen on.

i am trialling Online Armor trial at present with nod and all seems to be going well and is lightweight on resources and seems to compliment nod32.(not price of OA though.)

    i am using xp.
    i also have installed.
1.AVG Antispyware (not enabled & Res shield not on).
2.Defender not enabled. (but when i do run amon also runs).
3.Spybot S + D not enabled (which pickd up my sec security cent not running recently when i did do a scan. nothing else did.)
4.SpywareBlaster not enabled. (online armor running instead)

REALLY< WHAT FIREWALL & ANTISPYWARE IS THE BEST FOR USE NOD32
THAT WONT CONFLICT AND DRAIN MEMORY o_O

I've used Comodo and NOD32 for about a year and not had one conflict. I don't recall seeing any questions about conflicts with NOD32 here or over at Comodo forums (and I'm on both every day).

I also use Superantispyware and Spybot for on demand scanning.

I add Spybot to clients....and keep it updated..remember, each time you update it..re-immunize it.

SpywareBlaster is also good...uses no resources.

For firewall..all clients I support are behind routers...so they have NAT...even if just a single PC.

    Thanks for the tips.
    i really like both.
thats the reason i chose spywareblaster because it dont use any resources.

This will be my setup pretty soon, I hope:

    Nod32
Superantispyware Pro (for an extra layer of active spyware protection)
Comodo Firewall Pro 3 (which will have hips and will complete my security setup)

Right now I am using comodo firewall 2 and there is no conflict with nod32.

I've never seen any kind of conflict between NOD32 and Comodo either. SuperAntiSpyware is champ for cleaning out spyware. I also use CCleaner to keep everything cleaned out.

i run a nat firewall router - update it as patches are released!
nod32, spybotSD, lavasoft free, spywareBlaster and the xp built-in firewall.

The only problem with using just the NAT firewall is that it doesn't provide outgoing protection. It does however provide the best incoming protection, and I personally don't think anyone should not use a router as it is the simplest, most efficient form of firewall. The built-in XP firewall has the same problem with only providing incoming protection, and even that is debatable. :)

For some people..that's all we want. So not necessarily a problem. :D

CounterSpy version 2.5.1032 works great with NOD. Other than that a router suffices.

Presently using NOD32 and Vista Firewall (with Outbound default set to Deny and Rules created for apps). I'm a relatively safe surfer, and I got sick of my suite swamping my machine (and this was one of the more popular, low-resource suites - Not naming them as my wife uses it without problems so YMMV).

I should note I also use HijackThis and RootkitRevealer on occasion, and have UAC turned on.

(If one of the more senior people here thinks this setup should be augmented in some way, I'd be happy to hear about it - Without derailing the thread of course!)

Just noticed you were looking for XP recommendations -- Ignore the Vista firewall then please! o_O

When you don't visit suspicious websites, so you don't need antispyware. NOD32 catches spyware/adware/riskware, so if you are usual user, you really don't need antispyware. I recommend to have antivirus and firewall, they are necessery. You can use some antispyware only for scan.

As others have reported, and I concur, Comodo Firewall and NOD 32 work flawlessly together. I have to question why a NOD 32 rep, reportedly, suggested that you NOT use Comodo. I will let those who are aware of ESS and its new attributes... Glad you are liking OA, but me, I'm sticking with Comodo. CHUCK :D

I'll be going with ESS when it's out - I don't wanna bother with the layered approach anymore.

    Hi Brian:

It's funny, the older I get the more it seems users have no time to do it right the first time but then are forced to fix all the issues that befall them after!

The layered approach is under siege from suites no doubt!

But for me anyway I don't want to depend on 1 vendor for all my security needs. Maybe I'm assuming that is what you intend and I'm wrong? :doubt:

Look what happened to those who depended on ZA Suites for all their security needs! I know you said ESS and I wish you luck!

Are you behind a H/W FW?

Nah I'm just getting tired of the layered approach. No idea why because I've always used different software for different purposes. Maybe it's the time consuming configuration on each of them that I'm starting to get tired of :)

Oh and ESS will have settings import/export which is a huge time saver.

You have very valid reasons if you ask me. However, I still think that the layered approach is the way to go (in Windows environments at least) The apps I currently use (Tiny Watcher, Jetico 1 and Geswall free) give me a good layered approach (integrity checking, application firewall and policy-based sandbox) without hassles or slowdowns.

I use Kerio 2.1.5 for firewall, really have no idea if those Comodo/Outpost bells&whistles actually do more good than bad.

    Hi Jollii

"REALLY< WHAT FIREWALL & ANTISPYWARE IS THE BEST FOR USE NOD32
THAT WONT CONFLICT AND DRAIN MEMORY o_O"

I have come to a conclusion for my needs that the best approach in building a layered defense is to pick the FW 1st. Then ask the FW vendor and forum experts which AV's and ASW and HIPS work well with it!

Consider CFW 2.4.15 not the beta or Kerio. Both pure FW's with no secret call homes! I have no experience with OA but 1 trial at a time I think so it something goes weird you know who to blame:D

BTW, If you don't enable Spyblaster on your PC you may as well remove it since you are concerned about resource usage. It is a prevention tool like a FW.

For Xp with NOD 32 and the other on demand tools you probably don't need defender either. That will save more CPU %.

What you seem to be missing is an on demand AV? Where is that on your PC? But before you rush out and fill up your PC with Antivir etc consider NOT installing an on demand AV, just run KAV free on line scan or house call once a week.

You should also behind a router! very cheap!

Just some alternate ideas for you.

Sorry for my late answer ;)
But you have a point - The older you get .....
And I've just figured out what the hell is wrong with me. I'm getting older, and sadly I can't stop it. I find myself spending more time with my family than my favorite hobby, which is PC related - and I'm going down. I wish there was a way to stop it, but damnit, I'm so stressed on the job that I feel I'm about to explode. Time consumption and the fact that I can't do this hobby forever is gaining on me. I'm lost.
