    Alex,

I'm sorry to hear that Acronis is not working on a new version of the BartPE plunin for True Image. The current version does not support image mounting, backing up directly to CD or creating a new secure zone. These are rather serious limitations. The image mounting and backing up directly to CD problems could easily be solved with a new version of the driver files snapman.sys and snapapi.dll. The secure zone problem has already been solved. After all the work that had been done on this plugin in The CD Forum, I'm very surprised to hear they are not working to solve these issues.

    To All,

If you are interested in image mounting or creating a new secure zone under BartPE, you can use the Reatogo Acronis Combo AutoHelp plugin that is currently available. There is a work around method for image mounting in the Full version of the True Image plugin. It really does work and you will be able to restore just the files you need. The secure zone feature is fully working. You will need to have True Image installed on the machine used to build the BartPE disk.

There is an added bonus for users of Acronis Disk Director 9. A fully functioning BartPE plugin is available! Thus the name Combo plugin.

You need to be a registered user of these products for the plugins to work.

Please be aware that Acronis does not support these plugins.

When I tried to DL reatogo, Kaspersky AV flashed a warning about some sort of riskware embedded in the .exe (I didn't right down the file name it caught). So, I decided not to complete the DL

The BartPE install was a bit funky too. After installing it, and extracting the Acronis plugin to the plugins folder, I tried to click on the plugins button to verify the Acronis plugin was available. I got an error message saying the file path was invalid, or something to that effect. Got fed up w/ it, so I uninstalled. I'll just try again later this week as I'm liking the idea of BartPE.

The Acronis Linux boot CD can be just as fast or even faster depending on your hardware, it also has drivers for many hardware items that BartPE lacks natively. Last but not least, it boots much faster than BartPE. The BartPE is a nice fallback when the Linux CD won't work.

In general, use BartPE only if the Acronis CD fails to work.

    Hello ianC,

Yes, you can mix use of Acronis True Image 8.0, Acronis True Image 8.0 Bootable Rescue CD and Acronis True Image plug-in for BartPE, as they are fully compatible with each other.

You can create images (both full and incremental images) using any of these approaches and then restore these images using any of them as well.

    Thank you.

    Hello mustang,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please be aware that you can mount images, create Acronis Secure Zone and burn your images directly to CD when Acronis True Image 8.0 is running from under Windows.

    Thank you.

    Hello niteghost,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please be aware that we recommend you to use only official version of Acronis True Image plug-in for BartPE (build 791) since we are not responsible for the functionality of any other versions and can not provide you with the support in case of any problems caused by the use of these unofficial versions.

Please also note that we recommend you to use Acronis True Image plug-in for BartPE only if Acronis True Image 8.0 Bootable Rescue CD is not working for some reasons.

    Thank you.

    Hello Ian,

I have contacted our Development Team and would like to provide you (and others) with the following information:

    1. Images created with Acronis True Image (build 903) can be restored with current build of plug-in (build 791) providing the images are not corrupted, of course.

    2. We have decided to update the plug-in regularly and we will release the new build very soon. In future we plan to update the plug-in with the original version of Acronis True Image.

    Thank you.

    Hello Ilya,

This is very welcome news. Please be aware that Acronis True Image is my favorite backup program. I own many other programs including Norton Ghost, Drive Image 2002, Drive Image 7, V2i Protector, Paragon Hard Disk Manager, Drive Snap Shot and Image For Windows. They all have their good and bad points. Overall, I consider True Image the best. This is why I have put so much effort into developing a fully functioning BartPE plugin.

I have only had two minor diappointments with the product. First is the limitations with the BartPE plugin. This will hopefully be fixed with future releases of the plugin. Second is the inability to backup directly to DVD without packet writing software running on the system. I realize that a lot of work has been done in this forum to provide a DVD solution. I have successfully backed up and restore a Windows system partition using DVD based on this information. The only problem is that it takes too long to be used on a regular basis. I hope that future versions of True Image will be able to backup and restore a system partition directly to DVD. With these two improvements, True Image would be close to the perfect backup solution.

I want to thank you and the support team for all your help in this forum. Also thanks to Acronis for this great product.

    Hi Bobdat

A friend has the Inspiron 6000 and I tried TI V8 on it, can create secure partion, can back up to secure partition but I am unable to restore. Starting TI from the F11 key allows me to start TI but as soon as I press Next the computer boots itself up completely by passing TI. I have gone into the Bios and set it to normal boot up, tried booting from the TI Bootup CD with no luck.
Not sure what to try next, any suggestions would be much appreciated as this one has left me head scratching.

Does TI V9 get round this problem.

    Thanks

    Lionel

    Hello Lionel,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please make sure that you use the latest build (937) of Acronis True Image 8.0 which is available at: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

To get access to updates you should create an account at:
    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/
then log in and use your serial number to register your software.

Please create the bootale rescue media with the latest update and see whether the problem still persists.

If the problem still persists, please download and install the trial version of Acronis True Image 9.0, create new bootable rescue media with it and try to restore the image.

If that does not help, please create Acronis Report and Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

Please create an account, then log in and submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
