A question for everyone (I asked Vlk via PM to but I will ask here in case anyone else has input)

Does Avast license any other vendors databases on top of the Avast in-house engine/database?

    No, everything is developed in-house.

They solved a stability issue in the behavior shield? And all this time I thought it was just there to look at. God knows it never does anything, lol.

I'm curious about any new avast! build but AIS 5.0.594 is running so well on my main machines that I've had to trial ESET 4.2.64.12 on my test rig just to relieve the monotony.:D

avast! pre-releases are basically public BETA tests. ALWIL guys do the initial internal testing and when they think it's mature enough they release it to forums. After some time of testing there by the users and the ongoing internal testing, they later decide when it's mature enough to be rolled out to everyone using avast!.

it seems that theyre putting a lot of time and effort into improving their sandbox, every update seems to contain improvements or bug fixes for it, it looks good that theyre really trying to focus on making it a good sandbox

I have been having many issues with avast! web and network shields. My LAN connection gets disconnected randomly and performing a network diagnostics tells me that the DNS server is not responding. The identical system image without avast (running ESET, Avira, or MSE) runs fine. I had fixed on avast as the av that gets closest to perfection, looks like this love affair was destined to be short-lived.

Well, do you happen to remember when this started happening or if disabling Web Shield or Network Shield fixes the problem? Are you using any other security software with avast! and/or some kind of proxy software (of any kind)?

    1. No I don't remember the exact date, but I do remember being able to run build 465 for a long time in smooth fashion.
    2. All I am using except avast! is HMP. I don't think that could ever be an issue.
    3. No proxy, direct connection to Internet.
    4. Disabling does nothing, uninstalling does.
