avast has always been underrated jeff, and so has my drweb :)

i think the only 'wow factors' this time around are microsoft and Bitdefender for sure.

And once again people jump to criticize a test solely based on the results of some products they've likely never even used before, much less know anything about except from popular myths and hearsay.

Sometimes I believe that the ability of the Wilders community to form reasonable, logical thought processes is severely overrated.

Ah but there is such a simple explanation for all this...

To quote Will Durant, "To speak ill of others is a dishonest way of praising ourselves".

A pleasant surprise. A good showing by AVG Anti-Malware . Very nice. :)

Damn, perhaps OneCare isn't as bad as previously thought. It seems Microsoft's AV is getting progressively better each and every time. I still need a few independent tests to believe it though. There were some pretty heavy hitters Microsoft bested on this test, including NOD, McAfee, Trend Micro, etc...going to take a lot more similiar results to believe Microsoft has covered this much ground this quickly.

AV-Comparatives on demand test results should be available in ~ 10 days. Not sure OneCare will be included since its poor showing last February.

All the more reason to show OneCare's latest results. Be it bad or good, it's the only way to see which direction Microsoft is headed in with regards to their AV capability. My guess is OneCare will score much better this time around than compared to February's lackluster results. I mean seriously, they can't help but to get better, February's results were downright atrocious.

Agreed. But it will be for IBK to decide. From AV-comparatives Feb 07 report:

As a long-time user and believer in BitDefender, I'm feeling pretty darn good about the latest test results.

Note: I'm not saying BD is perfect, but I have found that their AV+ and ISS software products have served me well for the last three years. I also recently added AVG AntiMalware and AVG ISS to my "stable" of licensed products, and I'm feeling pretty good about that as well based on the same test results.

I also use Dr. Web on two older laptops; it pains me to see Dr. Web in the "also ran" category.....

As long as AVK remain at the top score of any test..... tests you can trust ;)

The report will be released in time as usual on 1st September. Microsoft is still included and yes it did improve and will for sure continue to improve very fast, but....

I would not be that sure that AVK will remain on top...

BitDefender seems to have made a rather big jump. I think 5% better since May?

Free bitdefender v10 ondemand in combination with avira or nod realtime would make the perfect av solution atm?

Does the free version of BD have the same HEUR and Sig count as the paid one incl. adware/spyware?

Yes but as far as i know they can't be considered for any other use then workstation since last time not too long ago it slowed down my personal high end machine that much i didn't even wanna be on it anymore. However really did enjoy it's giu and toying a bit around with it but bee's gotta move faster.

You need to be more than "optimistic" to believe that Symantec will be better than Kaspersky in the next 500 years...

It's not possible... or Symantec need to "born" again...

symantec are on par with kaspersky, the only thing kaspersky does better is the faster sig adding, but i believe the software itself and the results of tests are about par, with maybe norton shading the lead with constant detections of polymorphics and a lower FP rate.

    i have a question though,

has the drweb engine already been incorporated into trustport?
i know the deal was done, but is it actually in the product yet
