am i correct that updates are free until a major release? like 5.0.0-5.9.9 then 6.0.0 would require a update purchase?

 

That's the way I understand it.

 

if there is a major upgrade within the first year of purchase then you can get it for free. after the first year, they will give you a massive discount (around 50%) if you want to upgrade to the new version. or you could just get the 'annual support and updates' which costs $5 a year (without discount) and then that way you are entitled to any version which comes out for the duration of the contract.

personally, i would just pay the minimum as they don't upgrade to major versions often and when they do its quite cheap to upgrade to that due to double discounts.

lol, its the nature of the game, most people don't know what imaging means let alone the programs that can do it, those who are imaging maniacs know all about Active@. similar to Image For Windows, both are quality software's but only people who have an interest in imaging have even heard of it am guessing.

norton ghost/acronis are widely known because of the length of time they have been in development plus the much much bigger marketing budget, again am just assuming here.

although having said that, Active@ Kill Disk/UNDELETE are more widely known than Active@ Disk Image

 

Is there a personal "Pro" version of Drive Image without buying the Corporate version? I was sure there used to be but it seems to be Starter and Standard.

its personal preference really, its cheaper to just get the annual support for 4 years but i like renew manually so i did not sign up for the annual support

It's the best decision I have made so far, I was thinking of purchasing IFW, but it is very complicated for me to use. I even have license for Ghost 15, but I am not even using that, very easy to use.

No more reinstall of OS, just restore c drive that's it.

edit one possible problem i see is how do they add the support to your exist. lic? no where does it ask for your product key or anything

It should add one more year, but I am not sure.

As far as I can remember, when you purchase a product you are suppose to create an account and provide your email address. I think so, using that email address you can link up the purchase, but again I am not sure.
