Speaking of networks, on a fresh Ubuntu installation, there is no listed network connection even though Ethernet is up and running.

The fix for unmanaged network is to go into the /etc/networkmanager folder, find the nm.conf file and with a text editor, change
the line which lists managed network from false to true. Save the change, exit and reboot.

Next time Ubuntu comes up the network manager applet should find and list the active network connection.
