I would say its time you upgrade your router. There have been numerous recent router attacks that are exploiting vulnerabilities. Most have been addressed via router manufacturer firmware updates. If the most recent firmware you are using is as old as you think it is, this alone is enough reason to but a new router.
You're probably right. I kind of dread the thought setting it up and trying to configure it. I hardly remember how to do all of that. LOL :-(
