There are many reasons why you would put a system on a DMZ! One, if you have a dedicated server (FTP or HTTP! Two if you have a game server! Three, if you want to see exactly what traffic is comming to and from you inet interface! Ect. ect...

    Regards,
    Jazzie

Doesn't really matter if you have a small network of 3 or 20! Even a single pc can be put on a DMZ.. Back to the topic though, I still feel ARP is important in an enviornment that has a router and more than one node.

    Regards
    Jazzie

As this thread was about Netveda's Safteynet:

Which processes of this program are running while the program runs? I don't see which one's are from Netveda...

    Thanks!

    and maybe 1 more?

Edit : ipcLAM.exe ... Administrator service [the dialog box for configuration]

  8. ipcsvc.exe
    ipctray.exe
    ipcLAM.exe....the admin. GUI

ok, thanks! ipcLAM I do not see. The other two use up 13k.

That's less than Outpost, but it might be that I use less things than in Outpost. I think that LnS used 7k in all. Can someone look this up?

In that case we know how much resources the lighter firewalls use!

    okay...

ipcLAM is the thing that starts up if you double click the tray icon or click @ administration in either the context menu of NetVeda's tray icon, or from the start menu group.

    it's 4.5 MB or so.

    Notes::

    1. Try looking at "VM Size" of a process in task manager. How? Simple.
Choose the 'processes tab'. 'View' menu. 'Select Coloumns...'. From the dialog box that pops up, choose whatever you want.
I've chosen Image name, Owner, CPU, CPU Time,Mem Usage, Peak Mem Usage, VM Size, Page Faults, Threads.

    2. Kerio 2.1.4 uses < 4MB Ram in many systems, but it has a flaw in remote admin. So if you like kerio v2, and don't need the remote admin... :D:D

After Kerio, NetVeda is the low memory champion.

    Kerio 2.15, right?

NetVeda use much less resources than ZoneAlarm, have a better GUI and give us a better information about the traffic...

ZoneAlarm is a very obscure firewall...

How much RAM does Netveda use? Just curious. I am in the market for a software firewall that uses low resources.

    Thanks,

    Jag

Vampric Crow, I certainly meant KPF 2.15, the version 4 is bloat. Zone Alarm is quite good but needs to improve it's rule making, it is truly pathetic.

Bear in mind that ipclam only comes to play when the administrator window is opened, otherwise it is the sum of the other two components.

But you need it quantify... saying "my system is slow" won't help a troubleshooter.. they need stats ;)

yes you are right no13.probably we can add cpu time also along with ram usage..i dont know whether we have anything to monitor hdd activity.

by changing to netveda my system has become lot more responsive, and also faster web page loading.btw i have tweaked it to the maxx..

I dunno. I'm kinda fuzzy about Page faults and VM usage.

Now... HDD i/o may be monitored after you pick up filemon from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml

more great stuff on that site
