In the Performance Options section of XP under Process Scheduling, there are two radio button options to adjust performance: Programs -or- Background Services

Because my system has been a little sluggish, I just decided to check this out and realized that mine is set to Background Services (the default setting is Programs). However, when I attempt to change the setting to Programs, it won't hold. As soon as I go back to check it, the setting is back to Background Services.

What's causing this -- why can't I make this change?

I know this might sound obvious but I'm sure we've all overlooked it... you did click "apply"?

If it's working right it should automatically apply the new setting when you close the dialog. But if something's amiss clicking Apply might straighten it out.

Close the dBx by clicking "OK" or the cross at the top? You could expect it not to "stick" when hitting the x but I've known settings not to stick hitting the OK.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried them all, but none of them seems to work. Must be something screwy with my system:(.

I'm assuming your running in an admin account when trying to make this change since setting in LUA wouldn't
work under the Advanced tab. Are you able to change the settings on any of the other tabs listed in the
Performance Options dialog box? When you navigate to the Windows registry key mentioned in post above and
change the value to "2 " is ' Programs ' selected and upon reboot it does not hold?
