About 6-8 months ago my son downloaded PC Cleaner Pro, I thought I had it uninstalled and all remnants gone, but I guess not. Belarc Advisor which lists everything on your computer shows it under Virus Protection so the little bugger is hiding somewhere.

Can't find any files left, I've checked the registry in all the usual locations, tried various registry cleaners, Ccleaner, Wise, Glary , Auslogics, Privazer, tried Adwcleaner, scanned with MBAM, Process Explorer, regscanner, nuthin.

I know something is hiding because when I updated Avast yesterday I guess it shut off for update, Action center came on and said Please turn on your virus protection PCCleaner Pro.

So, any suggestions where something may be hiding or a tool I could use to find it?

    Thanks.

Hi, something "might" still be in SERVICES/DRIVERS ? Use ProcessExplorer to see.

Also use Autoruns & check it Anything is set to load on boot.

It "could" be that one of the above that is left over & the Action center is just listing it, without it actually doing anything ?

I usually use the Windows SEARCH to try & find leftovers by the Apps name = PC Cleaner Pro. Plus if you can discover the companies name, try that too. Also in the registry.

You could reinstall PC Cleaner then uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller Portable. Use the Advanced Uninstaller Mode and delete every leftover registry key, file, and folder unless it's obviously not related to PC Cleaner. It usually does a great job but once it did try to delete a wrong registry key so you do have to monitor what it's doing.

I'd be wary of doing that! Re-installing a program just to get rid of it sometimes doesn't work out. It may cause more problems than it's worth.
I use Revo consistently and usually find it reliable - but not always! I have just been through a torrid time getting rid of an incredibly resilient program which left bits and pieces scattered all over my system. Revo found a huge number of folders\files and keys – but left heaps of crud.
I'm still finding stuff left over from Avast - Panda and other programs despite uninstalling these 6 months ago (and using the recommended methods) I had a program - SIW (System Information for Windows) telling me that LavaSofts Ad Aware was still on my system despite me uninstalling it ages ago – I never did find out where SIW was picking up this info from and ended up just ignoring it.

One thing to consider Digmor C - is that what is left of PC Cleaner Pro may be just a harmless remnant and not worth bothering about.
Unless it is causing issues for you – maybe just ignore it?
