    Hi roemer7,

The only thing in your log I have my objections about is all the stuff NetZero deems necessary to dump on your computer.
But since there is nothing really wrong with your log and you did not state the reason for posting your log, I thought I'd ask first.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Sorry, I should have told you what was wrong. Here it is...
I am having trouble accessing any secure web site (e-mail, banking sites, fantsasy baseball leagues), any site I need to log into. I get the message: "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." IE shuts down and then restarts. I also have tried to download the latest updates from Microsoft, but the same window pops up just when I find out what updates I need. Needless to say, but my wife and I find this very annoying! If I can assist you in any way just say the word. I also have access to a second (working) computer at work, where I am writing this now. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Respectfully,
    Roemer7

P.S. The whole NetZero thing...I am using a free 10 hr a month service from NetZero. Could this be the problem?

First look in IE under help > About at the encryption.
Is that listed as 128-bit (high encryption) ?

    Regards,

Yes, listed at 128bit (high encryption).
Another thing, I was able to access these types of sites until about a month and a half ago. Not sure what has changed.

Make a separate folder for HijackThis before you start this. It makes backups in the folder it is in, which is now the desktop.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch
    R3 - URLSearchHook: URLSearchHook Class - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\NZSEARCH\SEARCHENH1.DLL

    O3 - Toolbar: ZeroBar - {F5735C15-1FB2-41FE-BA12-242757E69DDE} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETZERO\TOOLBAR.DLL

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uoltray] C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETZERO\EXEC.EXE regrun
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [spc_w] "C:\Program Files\NZSearch\hcm.exe" -w

Then in IE click > Tools > Internet-options > Programs tab > reset Websettings.

    Then reboot and try again.

    Keep us posted.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I won't get back to you until tonight, right now I'm at my computer at the office. Thanks, I'll try what you suggested.

I did as you said and this seems to have worked. Are there any more steps I need to take? What do I do with the backed up files and what was it that was doing that to my machine?
    Thank you.

IMO and that should be taken literally, some providers like to shove software down your throat so much that it hurts.
Unfortunately it hurts their customers and in the end it has to backfire someday. Not yet, but it will. ;)
Let's just say the Netzero software does not work very well for everyone.

    Regards,

    Pieter
