    Hi, :)
I am new to this forum, having been very reliant on SpwareInfo forums. :p
Anyway, you look like decent people ;)
I am not a complete novice (although looking at you lot, I think I might be!) but I do have loads to learn and daren't touch the bits I dont know anything about!
I have run Spybot S&D and HT - My horrible 15 year old has done all sort of nastys to the old (but networked) family PC (Win 9:cool:. I have cleaned the 21 trojans he nicely gave it and now I am stuck with a new IE home page - I have also tried several software programs that are supposed to rectify and prevent it happening but they are freaking out (ie, "your home page has changed - do you want to keep it?" When I of course say no, it just repeatdely reverts back. HELP!!

Here is my HT log from that PC

I have done what you have said, apart from a few small differences from what you said, after reboot, I noticed so didnt do? This is what I have:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mstask.exe also, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mstasks2.exe AND C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mstasks3.exe AND
    no C:\WINDOWS\reg32.exe

Apart from that, here is my new HT log

Uhoh, what did you try to open?

Read this on how to attach files to email:
    How to mail attachments

Do never ever delete files just because they have the same or almost the same name as malware. One of the methods of trying to get on your system undetected, is by using filenames that look trustworthy.
In other words trying to pass as Windows files.

If you can not find mstaskm.exe it may be a hidden file.
To "unhide" hidden files and folders:
Launch My Computer from the Desktop Icon.
    Select View, Details.
    Select the Folders button.
Select Tools, Folder Options. Then select the View Tab. Select the Show hidden files and folders radio button is selected
and that the Hide file extensions for known file types check box is unchecked. Once this is done, select Apply and then
Like Current Folder (located near the top of the Folder Options box). Then select OK.

    Regards,

    Pieter

To look inside a file you will need some software that allows you to.
Filealyzer is a simple, but free one: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=filealyzer

But most of the time, if it is something nasty, you will find that the files are packed, and you still won't be able to see something usefull. :)

Your last log was clean so I wouldn't worry too much about the files you couldn't find. Startup entries are left behind more often, when the files are already long gone.

Sorry I misunderstood you. You would be surprised how often I have used that link on how to use the attach. It's not silly not to know. There's a first time for everything.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I don't think so, but I am still unsure what exactly you tried to do when that happened.

There is one thing you should do. Windows Update.
Or the raging hormones will have another party on your computer and leave you with a mess to clean up.

    Regards,

    Pieter
