I followed your instructions on

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913

In order to get the fastest and most accurate assistance possible and to help us to help you better, please follow these three steps when posting your HijackThis Log:

My system is Windows98 SE
I updated and ran
AdAware with the settings on the above forum post
It found 11 more objects and 11 folders

SpyBot Advanced found no threats

PestPatrol found CWS.GoogleMS.3 which it cleaned

I also have Trojan Hunter
and AVG free Edition

I downloaded HiJack This and the log is below.
When I came back home, I had to unclick communications again and use my Win98SE cd to get back on the internet because the winsock files were again corrupted.

It looks like the scans did a good job because you log is clean.

Nether could I. I would go to Kaspersky and upload that file for them to check it out.

The Task Monitor checks the disk-access patterns of programs when they are started and stores this information in log files in the Applog folder. Task Monitor also records the number of times you use a program. The Disk Defragmenter tool uses this information to optimize your hard disk so that programs that you use frequently are loaded faster.

Logitech now bundles BackWeb spyware with its software, but it seems either AA or SB removed them for you tho...

Your log looks fine to me. One of the Experts will jump in if they see something.

HTH.....

Regards,
Kent

I just got off the phone with Logitech Tech Support and they told me to go to Add/Remove Destop Messenger, it is not needed. They put it in your system and it runs constantly to make you aware if there is a new driver.
So I uninstalled and deleted the folder.

I did submit the nkpl.exe to that website and it found nothing suspicious.
The file was created April 4 at 1:05 am
I ran SpyBlaster and again had to click the box on
XXXToolbar.com

Kent I did get my IE Browser repaired and the setting right so that my chat room opens fine now.
Thanks for all your help. Hopefully that file will get checked soon. I would bet it has something to do with Diablo, that my sons play online.

Hi FranApple,

Something came up last night preventing me from doing proper research. I did get the file though and will have a look asap.
Will let you know by mail if and when I know some more.

Pieter Thanks for your reply.
This afternoon I found out that the windows update worked on my system again. I downloaded the smaller pac. The system froze after half of the install and I had an horrible time restarting my system in regular mode.

Ran SpyBot advanced System Start-up files, I unchecked these 2 items below.
:'(
I thought I had this thing, whatever it is beat!

Current value: ScanRegistry
Current filename: C:\WINDOWS\scanregw.exe /autorun

Database status: Not required - virus, spyware, malware or other resource hog
Value: ScanRegistry
Filename: Scanregw.exe

Description
Added as a result of the GWGHOST VIRUS!. Not to be confused with the real ScanRegistry above - which is a vital Windows file. The executable "Scanregw.exe" is located in %windir%\\System (where %windir% is the Windows directory - C:\\Windows or C:\\Winnt)

Current value: SystemTray
Current filename: SysTray.Exe

Database status: Not required - virus, spyware, malware or other resource hog
Value: SystemTray
Filename: SystemTray.exe

Description
Added as a result of the BIGFOOT VIRUS! Note - this is not the valid SystemTray above

Thanks
I hope this thread helps some others.
