I told her that her laptop would be fine but she is still worried if it would affect anything such as her windows update or settings on her laptop during the shut down process.

I hope you're not serious

Warn her, her laptop might explode into small pieces if she turns it on now because of the CTRL thing

    What have you doneo_O

The Ctrl button should never be pressed! Do you even know what that button is for? It stands for Crying Turkeys Ruin Lives, and you just unleashed them on the world.

I do hope you're satisfied with yourself.

(In case this was a serious question. No nothing will happen and your computer will be fine.)

I really hope these people never find their way into the BIOS lol think of the trouble they'd cause!

Don't be mean! She's a woman, she's logical. When she boots to Windows and presses control, nothing happens. Sooooooo, it's probable that the button serves to TRANSFER control of the laptop to someone else, for the next boot! o_O

When I first joined this forum in 2003 (different name) I knew nothing at all about computers. I know I asked really "stupid" questions. Thank goodness nobody mocked me. They gave help and answered the question. This forum has been instrumental in increasing my love of computers.
Why all this mockery of a valid question? Yes, he/she was serious. I suppose you all were born with the knowledge that hitting ctrl does nothing bad?
    Grow up.

Just in case the question is genuine - I have no knowledge of the 'control' key having any such power as a 'stand-alone' key. Keys that carry out serious functions usually always come in combinations. A famous one being control+Alt+delete (3 key combo).

The only stupid question is one unasked. Nothing at all to worry about. If it was a troll then I am sending the gremlins to bit you and they have rabies.

    Nothing to worry about here.

Only concern may be if the user sneezed when shutting down the PC. This could lead to a virus being installed on re-boot.
