My Christmas "Software" Wish...

    ... is that *every* software vendor include with the installation files,
    an installation log text file with a list of *all* changes made to the system
    to include:

    1) *every* file that is installed and its location

    2) *every* registry entry

    3) services started (if applicable)

    4) ports opened (if applicable)

    5) an explanation of where configuration settings are stored (Registry or *.ini file)

    6) anything else I didn't think of :)

    Some do include an installation log, but it is rarely complete.

    Hi everyone,

    What I wanted from this thread was other suggestions to be included in an installation log (lucas mentioned drivers/hooks)

    [I tried to edit the thread title but couldn't figure out how]

    I'm eventually going to write a number of software companies whose products I use and update.

    It may not do any good, but I'm going to do it anyway!
